Smithfield is a land of foothills and lowlying mountains, none of which quite rise above the treeline. The northern part of the barony is lower than the southern, with Orann, Copper Run, and the southern part of Twisted Forge rising in elevation above the lower hills of Iron Fields.
The low mountains of Smithfield are rich in ore and coal, particularly iron ore, copper, and bituminous coal, though there are rumors of a strain of anthracite in southern Copper Run.
