Having been born from a covenant relationship between his father and a woman named Solphin Desre, his birth had resulted in the death of his mother. He was raised on the birthmilk of a nanny and the physical care of her, while his father spent a most of the time helping to tinker with important technologies in development. After he is able to walk and eat on his own, his nanny was relieved of the job and it became just him and his father, who was working often. This resulted in Ranis being alone often and developing a distant personality, one of very cynical nature and a twist of intelligent discussion he has heard or read. At fourteen, he did not like the idea of becoming an apprentice tinkerer, and openly shown how hateful he has become, so his father finally decided to allow him to go to gateway to study at the college there, paying all of the necessary fees and hopes he will find a future of his liking there, as well as some actual friends. Of course, this could be just a cop out for bad parenting, but it happens none of the less.
