Information
Penelope is the sixth of six children that were born to an unlanded noble family, Stevens. Her father was a merchant within the ports of Destine in the home of Omenal. The Silenus family was stripped from power in 504 for unknown public reasons. It was then that Penelope's mother, Isabella, managed to wrangle Chase into a regency. In 506, the Regency was given to him as an actual Lordship for Chase's hard work and maintenance.
Pen spent much of her younger days at the family estates in Omenal, however she often used her superior pouting ability to convince her father to take her on trips throughout the Isle of Draught. With each trip, Penelope grew more and more fascinated with the daily lives of others and the situations they had gotten themselves into. In 496 A.G., when Penelope was only nine years old, she found herself in the middle of a dispute between two warring merchants and a Draughtian guard. In the most childish sense possible, Pen attempted to mediate the situation and was laughed out of the marketplace. It was then that she became determined to learn all there was about Draughtian law, and quickly became fascinated by the subject.
It took little pleading for her father to allow her to study the subject more in-depth, and she spent many trading trips with her father at local bookstores, buying every tome about law that she could get her hands on. She branched out as best she could to find information about the laws of the other isles, however her main interest was, and remains, Draught. But still, despite her intelligence and her knowledge, Penelope was always treated like a simple child, not old enough to understand precisely what she was getting into.
After her brother was promoted to Lord of Omenal in 506, Pen decided to break away from her family and be the first to travel to Gateway, in order to make something of herself as an advocate.
Personality
Being the youngest of six, and thus the most protected, Pen often sees the world through rose-coloured glasses, and thus can come off as naive. Law is her life, however, and she struggles with the desire to be taken seriously as an assistant advocate. She loves to see policy made and believes that a single person can affect change.
Family
Chase Stevens - Her oldest brother, land holder. She loves Chase fiercely and is happy for everything he's managed to do for the family. She just finds him a bit stifling at times. She does however go to him when she needs advice.
Ashley Stevens - Her oldest sister, chamberlain. She loves her sister but sometimes she feels like Ashley acts more like money then sister. She finds herself reacting to her in this way too. She tries not to talk back and yet still fights for her independence from a sister that can be a bit too over protective.
Edwin Stevens - Eddie makes her a bit nervous. She's not sure why but there is just something about him that makes her wary. She knows that he would never intentionally hurt her. There is something in his eyes, a darkness that everyone else pretends not to see. She thinks it is what drives him to travel and why the family doesn't discourage him from this.
Paul Stevens - Paul is the bad of all men and the humor of her existence. He drinks too much, gambles away all his money, and can't remember a girl's name the moment he leaves her room. He's taken on the duty of showing her what kind of man she doesn't want to be with. She loves him though and can't help but find humor in his antics. Paul is also the sibling best to go to when she wants to confess but not get advice. He's not judgmental at all of her.
Mercy Stevens - Mercy is a hurricane of a woman. Pen is probably closer to her, even if she insists on calling her Penny. Mercy enjoys Mercy. Everyone in the family knows that it is best to just give in as Mercy can throw (and will throw) the worst temper tantrum known to mankind if she gets told no. One just doesn't do that often to her unless they have power or more influence than she can get. However, Mercy is fun. If there is a party, Mercy knows about it. She'll sneak Pen into them as well.
Trivia
- Since they always teased her about seeing the world through rose-coloured glasses, Paul and Mercy chipped in to buy her a pair as a gag gift on her thirteenth birthday. She has worn them every day since.
- Her best friend, Renata Sendai, once stole her away for a two-month sojourn across Draught. Her brother was not happy when she came home.
- She's not as naive as she seems - but it is an excuse she'll gladly use when she's done something wrong.
- Her drink of choice is red wine, the drier the better.
- She hates cats and breaks into a rash when she eats anything chocolate.
- Never, ever call her Penny.
