Background
Patrick was born into the Codex family, though not of the ruling line. He is a Purist on the Path of the Dragon, and has been so all his life. Notably his parents and his brother are on the Path of the Mother, as is his wife Aisling. His younger sister Fidelima follows the Path of the Innocent. He hopes to raise his children on the Path of the Dragon.
Patrick studied weapons and their application from an early age (at his father's request: he had wanted Patrick to become a guard on Baronial duty), but Patrick had believed at the time that his true calling was in healing. Splitting his time slowed down his progress in both fields and so he graduated as a Journeyman Healer much later than his peers.
He served a duty tour on Guardians where he met his wife and married her after a year of courtship. He continued to pursue his studies into Healing but started to branch out more and more into the topic of pathology. For a few years, he lived in Ethos and served as a healer while his wife continued her own career as Craftswoman and Merchant. They split the duties for tending to the children as best they could, but the majority of caring for the toddlers fell on Patrick.
Late in the year of 506 A.G., after a series of slanderous attacks on Purist shipping had seriously damaged Aisling's business, Patrick decided to move with his family to Gateway, where Aisling's business would have much more opportunity to pick up, and he could more directly serve the Empire in the role of a City Guard. Switching roles, Aisling is now required to spend more time with the children, and Patrick finds that he misses all the time he used to enjoy with them.

- November 506 A.G. -- Patrick and his family move to Gateway, where Patrick joins the City Guard.
Relationships
- Patrick's wife is Aisling, and she is originally from the Isle of Guardians. She is a craftswoman and a merchant.
- Patrick has two children, a son named Patrick and a daughter named Cairine
- Patrick's father, Kirwen Codex, was a merchant - he is still alive, but has now retired in Ethos with his mother, Ailis Codex.
- Patrick has a younger brother Kinnard and an even younger sister Fidelima
- Patrick is the cousin of Lord Codex and Lady Codex
Trivia
- Patrick uses a cut-and-thrust sword by preference in close combat and is a skilled archer, preferring the use of the longbow for ranged affairs.
- Patrick keeps his faith to himself (as befits a City Guard), though he can often be seen speaking a quiet prayer. He will talk about it if asked however.
