Ambassadors

Ambassador roles will be opened as a means of introducing characters from other lands. In order to play an Ambassador, you must have your country written up (see +news Foreigners). An application should be sent to Admins for approval before the character will be allowed to enter the grid.

Ambassadors and their retinues will be housed in a special area created just for these visitors to Gateway. Ambassadors should be prepared to generate rp for the opening/unveiling of their lands, be prepared to have something you are offering Gateway. This can be to the Emperor or to the separate Duchies, factions and guilds.

City Guard

What's the difference between a Knight and a member of the City Guard? Simplicity itself! A Knight is a person in dedicated service to the Emperor. They have gone through years of specialized training to get to their current position, and are numbered among the elite fighters of the Empire with very little room for deep interpersonal relationships. A guardsman, on the other hand, could be someone from any walk of life that has a few fighting skills under their belt. Someone can enter the guard at any point in their life and gain more advanced skills while in the guard. City Guards are different also from members of the Legion, who are well-trained in various battle techniques and obliged to adhere to a certain standard of discipline.

What makes the City Guard special, despite lacking the honor that a knight or member of the Legion may own, is that they really know the city. Their duties involve patrolling the city, investigating local crimes, evacuating buildings or areas of the city in the event of an emergency, taking complaints from local merchants and resolving them if possible, and even chasing down a wayward kid that thought stealing an apple might be fun. The city guard really /knows/ the city with the added advantage of being more approachable for day to day issues.

City guards report to the Sheriff of Crossroads, who in turn reports to the First Knight. The city guard can at any time be supplemented by a brute squad organized by the Sheriff or his deputy to handle instances of violence or disturbance within the city limits. Guards also have the authority to arrest people who are creating a disturbance within the town, though any Knight can also do so on behalf of the Emperor if necessary.

Factions/Guilds

While overall, the nobility and people of Gateway are loyal to the Emperor, they are also human. This means they want to get ahead: gain power, money and influence. Its what makes the world go round.

Factions are those groups that are loyal by their very nature to the Empire and/or Emperor. This includes: The nobility, Imperial Guards/Knights, and those groups that live within the castle (Castellan and servants, etc.) or are directly commanded by the Emperor (them dark shadowy people). This does not mean that certain members of these groups cannot be disloyal; but on the whole, these groups support the Empire.

Guilds are those groups that are working to establish themselves as a power sufficient to challenge and/or protect themselves against the rulers of the Empire. These would be tradesmen, craftsmen, merchants, the thieves' guild, factors, and those who come from other lands.

Faction heads are usually born to the positions. The Emperor is the faction head for the royals and religious order, and the Dukes are the faction heads of their duchies. The Imperial Guard will have a First Knight that is the faction head for the knights of the castle and city of Crossroads. The Mogur Imperius is the faction head for the Mages.

Guild leaders rise up through rp for the most part. As a player, you may gather all the tradesmen into one group in order to garner power for that group. In this way, you can represent your members to the crown and through the power you wield, shape royal policy.

Both faction heads and guild leaders have one thing in common. They have a responsibility to the players to generate rp within their guilds/factions. This is a position of responsibility wherein the player will be expected to spend time gming and rping with his members. Given that requirement, requesting a position as the faction head of the King's Imperial Guard, when you can only give one day a week to the game is likely not going to work. (See +news TinyPlots)

Knights

Please see the Knights section for more information.

Warriors

Warriors from the Isle of Guardians have many options as far as employment. First, they may remain on the Isle, training younger warriors. They may take service in the Knight's Chantry and achieve Knighthood, or swear fealty to one of the other Dukes and serve in that Duke's household guard. Often this is an option for those who were born on a different Isle than Guardian, but feel the call of the warrior and take their schooling there. It is not uncommon for the other Dukes to pay the tuition costs of these students, to ensure loyal members of their own personal guards.

Additionally, they may move to Crossroads, and serve in the Crossroads City Guard. The City Guard is under the direction of the Sheriff, who reports directly to the Emperor. They patrol the city of Crossroads itself to enforce the Emperor's peace.
