History

Mihovil3.jpg

A.G. 478. Mihovil Pasternak is born in Healer's Hall to Jarik Pasternak and Sofia Valens, both teachers at the College of Healing. A bright child, inquisitive and curious, he seems to have inherited his parents' talent in an aptitude for the healing arts: he could often be seen around the college as a five, six, seven year old boy with sharp eyes, helping, watching, questioning, while his parents worked and studied. And yet, before the end of his seventh year, he disappears entirely from those halls. His parents speak of him no more.

A.G. 497. Twelve years later, the quiet, observant Mihovil Pasternak arrives in Gateway on a ship from Guardians to be knighted. After a few years spent in the castle, his life devoted to the service of the Emperor and the protection of the Imperial family, he returned to the Chantry, to teach the young and aspiring squires of the Empire.

A.G. 507. Sir Mihovil returns to Gateway.

A.G. 508, July 1. With Sir Gerard detailed to other duties, Sir Mihovil is appointed First Knight.

A.G. 509, October 26. On the death of the Emperor, Sir Mihovil is named Imperial Regent for Prince Jordan -- along with, and wed to, Providence help him, Helena Soranus.

A.G. 511, June. Mihovil disappears. Most presume him dead.

A.G. 513, March 25. A celebration is held to honor those returned victorious from Tyr. Mihovil Pasternak attends, and is lauded -- though for what part played, few enough understand. He was wounded, presumably in the battle for Tyrandel, though he was not among those that Gateway sent to fight it.

A.G. 513, April. The Imperial Council is established, and Mihovil -- called, once more, Sir Pasternak -- undertakes the role of the Emperor's guardian and representative on the Council as Protector of the Imperial Seat.

Rumors

About the Protector? They say...

...that he hails from Draught, though just how much of a Draughtian mind remains after years spent in the Chantry?

...that he's a man of quiet demeanor, given to patience. Lots of patience. And a long memory.

...that he's been known to pass free, quiet hours in the infirmary, reading, or engaged in more questionable practices in the morgue.

...that he subsists entirely on piping hot coffee.

...that he does not find small children to be any more obnoxious than their adult counterparts.

...that he has a very noble heart. In a jar, in a cabinet, somewhere.

...that he favors small, sharp weapons -- knives, crossbow -- or none at all over those preferred by his larger, Guardian-born brethren.

...that he thinks awful highly of himself. But then, he was a knight. Maybe he's just that good.
