The second eldest neice of the current Lord Sorcery's Crest, Dioptase Montaigu, Lazuli is a mostly soft-spoken, almost introverted young woman. While she is not the strangest of the bunch, she is certainly an obscure creature, from that eerily constant smile she wears, to her peculiar affinity toward veils that would surely obscure any person's vision. For mists, and certainly for the Montaigus, this is par for the course.
Lazuli could be described as mild and even meek, leading some to believe she is a weak creature, not suited for any real power or responsibility. Respectful, yielding, polite; these are all words that have been used to describe the woman upon meeting. Slow to anger and quick to smile, Lazuli's keen attention to propriety and courtly manners is deeply ingrained in every aspect of her personality, going to such an extreme as motions that may seem too outlandish, unexpected or forward may startle her. Carved from the very stone of pride and social grace that her family is known for, she follows a very thin, very straight line that-- in her mind-- outlines the honor and duty every mage should take to heart. Her disapproval in such matters is rare, but as her brother has noted before, "a wrath so rarely exercised is even more fearsome for it." Whether this is true or not, you may have to ask him.
On a personal note, she seems to find delight in the simplest of things, but particularly can be noted for the open joy and curiosity she finds in magic. Few things can move her as displays of magical prowess, which seems only fitting for a woman who grew up watching magical duels. From there, there is an odd collection of things that can draw a sentimental edge to her lips, including but not limited to music, gusty weather and a the song of a particular bird native to her home. Adoring of every member of her family, it would be fair to say she is prone to excessive praise when one can actually wrench her opinion away.
It's anyone's guess just how such a quiet, seemingly unremarkable woman with such reclusive tendencies could have won the attention of not one, not two, but three separate noblemen. Perhaps it is merely the thought of a dutiful wife from a respected family. Regardless of the reason, a new task comes appointed to the woman as she takes on the mantle of Baroness Moonshadow opposite the well-known former Lord, Baron Joseph Starling. Just how the mild woman will fare with the stormy Baron is anyone's guess.
History
Companions
Larimar - Her much more popular, more sociable, much younger brother. She has only the fondest of things to say of him and the highest of praise. The two seem to have a way of making one another smile.
Citrine - Her fashionista socialite sister and Larimar's other half. The two have a softer, unspoken bond between them, though nothing as attached as the one the twins share. Lazuli supported her husband's decision to make her Chamberlain of Midnight Lagoon in early 508.
Tourmaline - Her cousin and proprietor of Opulent Opals Jewelery Shop. Some of the family does not approve of her lax approach to study and preference to become a craftsman. Lazuli is supportive and rather fond of her. In fact, Lazuli had her dear cousin craft both her and her husband's wedding rings since she did not feel comfortable attending the wedding, itself.
Baron Joseph - Her liege and husband. Before those happenings, Lazuli had only passed the man on the street with few words between them. Encountering one another on a work related basis, she found the Baron to be a very quick man with a keen mind and found herself surprisingly comfortable handling matters of the Crest as well as more conversational undertones with the Baron rather quickly. In September of 507, the two became husband and wife.
Lady Laraine - As her brother acted as her husband's best man, it may be no small surprise that Lazuli finds herself increasingly fond of the music-loving Lady of Mists. The two found paired together over tea or discussing music and child rearing as the Lady is given guardianship over the Marquis.
Lachesis - A girl more from Larimar's history than her own, she has become quite used to the girl's presence in the Montaigu apartment and lately, in her own suites as Lachesis and Lazuli seem to be in more frequent company as of late.
Prince Juste - The Ambassador was one of the guests at Lazuli's wedding. A surprise guest. From there, Lazuli has found that she meshes surprisingly well with the Prince's sensibilities and he with her. Perhaps it is the natural draw of her family, as her fashionista siblings have become obsessed with Paisian style, Lazuli has become fascinated with their much more decadent culture, sometimes much to her husbands exasperation.
Princess Melissande - Much like her husband, she was a surprise addition to the wedding and received with the complimentary Montaigu charm and smile. It was afterwards, however, that Lazuli found herself to be increasingly enjoying the woman's company.
Lord Dyonith - A friend who first taught her the simple pleasures of playing pool and the game room in the castle. Later, he would propose marriage and embark on the long and tedious road to court a Montaigu. While the betrothal seems to have come up short, she still regards the man with a noted fondness. To see if their friendship will stand the test of time is the next hurdle for these two.
Baron Matthew - The Baron is a man she has had the opportunity to work with on a few occasions. Having found him agreeable and easy to work with as a mage who follows her own sphere of study, she has nothing but kind things to say of the newest noble on the Crescent Coast seat.
Kyrie - Someone Lazuli seems to run into with sporadic frequency, but whether hunting demons or enjoying a night on the beach, Lazuli finds herself increasingly fond of the Baroness Regent. She was also part of her bridal party for Lazuli's wedding. Her disappearance in 507 left a notable mark on Lazuli's heart.
Nathan - A close, old friend of hers from their time spent together at the Academy of Imperius. They were noted to exchange letters for some time after Lazuli was brought home to continue her study privately. He came to Gateway for a short time as Magistrate.
Malachi - A friend first met on political relations and soon grown into a quick, if bizarre, understanding. After some time apart and a chance occurrence in Arden Vale, they would meet again. Soon after the then Baron proposed marriage within a week of Dyonith and the two would become rival suitors to traverse the winding path she set them on. However, as the weeks went on and Malachi was dethroned, the man seems to have completely vanished from the public's eye.
