Lachesis Erastothenes

Lark Othermorn's life began in blood, violence, and bruises on Green Fields in a tangled web of sex, deception, and cruelty.

Of course Firenza Forester was involved, why do you ask? And is it any surprise that the Erastothenes would be part of a life full of darkness?

"Lark" was born years earlier on Mists. She grew up in a well off merchant family along the coast, a couple that had no easy time with conception, leaving Ava Emerson their only daughter. No one thought to really mention that she didn't bear much (if any) resemblance to them. With parents specializing in the trade of rare components, she saw any number of colorful, interesting figures traipsing through her childhood before going off to the academy to complete her studies with a specialty in illusion.

Things fall apart, though, and Ava's idyllic little life was one of them. Rumors started circulating about unnatural affections and cheating at her coursework. Of course she denied them, but enough 'proof' was found to drum her out of the Academy and send her home in shame to her disapproving parents. There was no comfort to be found there, and when a handsome Green Fields lad came into port not knowing about that rumored past and swept her off her feet? Well, youth and naivete saw her letting him carry her back to Green Fields.

Does anything good ever really happen when teenagers run away thinking they've met a lover who will save them? Things soured quickly, and what may have ensued is the following months is the stuff for another round of speculation. What is known is that Firenza Forester came upon a badly beaten young lady in dire straits and apparently felt ... mercy. She helped the girl find a new name, Lark Othermorn, and had her trained as a Lady's Maid (Wouldn't the Mistians be proud?) and eventually had her come over to Gateway to serve her.

And to bring a sweet little songbird named Ava.

Service to the Dowager Baroness certainly had its trying moments, but after some months it seemed time to try out the employ of another Forester. Lark joined the service of her Baroness, Phoebe Forester.

Once again defying expectations, it seems the Foresters have done the girl a good turn. In her time with Baroness Forester, Lark has begun to leave behind the shattered, yielding girl that came to the city. She has returned to school and magic lessons and even seems to have taken up with a young man of decent standing. Why people even say the two can be rather charming together, and rather proper!

And then Nyzia Erastothenes happened, laying claim to Lark as her daughter. When it proved true, grandfather Azurios demanded she use the name given her at birth and has shown some interest in the granddaughter he had not previously known. Her life has become a balancing act between the interests of kin, service, teacher, and a romance that has managed to heal some of her old wounds. And such acts often end in a fall - blood, violence, and bruises.

Personality

Once a shallow, pampered, and precocious child of means, Lark has lost many of her sharp edges. Social ruthlessness has given way to a survivor's willingness to do what needs doing, including meek submission when needed. There is a definite sense of timidity at times and Lark does have a tendency to flinch around violence and loud sounds. Yet she has also served Firenza Forester, taking messages of shocking and alarming content boldly out to people far above her station. What once might have been a traditional 'mean girl' has learned a surprising sweetness somewhere in her life. Unfortunately she has little opportunity to act on that as she is busy being manipulated. She's very good at that part - a horrible judge of character compounded by a wish to find someone she can trust. She might make someone a good little minion someday.

Relations

Firenza Forester: Lark's former boss. The one that saved her from having no money, nowhere to stay, and no real options. Lark has no idea how much she really owes Firenza - for better or worse. Of course now she seems to have wandered off and left her free.

Leon Maritus: That sweet lad down the hall from Firenza. Leon did Lark a kindness once that she has not forgotten. He is one of the only truly decent person she's ever trusted, though she has not seen him often of late. Must screw that up somehow.

Phoebe Forester: Her new employer. The loyalty that was laid at Firenza's doorstep has been transferred to her baroness daughter. And she seems rather pleased with this. Even if Phoebe was rather insistent about her growing a backbone. Whether that newly discovered spine can be attributed to Bee is anyone's guess.

Drake Ravensford: Lark's former illusion teacher. She finds him a suitable authority figure. Like many of her authority figures, though, he seems to have found somewhere else to be.

Larimar Montaigu: An old school chum that seems to have become considerably more of late. Of course with their penchant for pulling one another into dangerous spots, some might wonder which will be grieving over the other first.

Nyzia Erastothenes: The mother Lachesis never suspected - Nyzia traded the baby for some rare components and has recently come forward to lay her blood claim on the young woman. Lachesis does not seem overly troubled that she has not been seen around Gateway of late.

Azurios Erastothenes: The Blue Mage, Nex Ingredior, one of the scariest men in the Empire, if not the scariest. Grandfather. They are rarely seen together, but it seems they have been known to meet privately.

Lucian Acinthas: A peer in the employ of Phoebe Forester. Oh. And recently revealed to be Lachesis' father. While not particularly warm, they seem to get on passably.

Raziel Devonshire: The Mistian Duke has taken Lachesis on as an illusion student. It seems to be an amiable relationship.

Citrine Montaigu: Larimar's beloved twin sister has become a friend and companion to Lark since the illusionists have grown so close.

Lazuli Montaigu: The eldest of the Montaigu siblings is a mysterious, but friendly enough figure to Lachesis. The two seem to have become closer of late with Lark making regular visits to Larimar's sister.

Brendan Davenport: The master transportation mage has offered to help teach Lachesis when she is prepared to take up a second sphere. There was a debt there, but it has been repaid with interest, and she tends to react somewhat coldly to his name

Addison Brandivere: Her fellow illusion student, fellow blonde, fellow infamous family challenged young woman. They seem to be in the process of becoming friends and are seen together more often.
