Description
The Knights of Gateway Empire are acknowledged as the most dangerous, finest-trained group of warriors in the realm. The preparation to serve the Keeper is something that starts at a young age and includes knowledge of magic, courtly manners, and politics as well as the rigorous and intense physical prowess required to be a guard for the Imperial family. Knights are the Keeper's hand, and their word is law. They also hold a tight personal tie with the Keeper, as they have the duty of being responsible for his health and are therefore a near constant presence in his life.
Membership Requirements
A knight must be trained from youth and serve as a squire for years before he is tested to be a knight. There is only one female who has ever completed knight training, Drusilla Conway. Other females have been drummed out, and now all are forbidden to enter training. From a character standpoint, people cannot apply for a knight PC. Sometimes a player will be asked if they wish to make one, if admin feel they have a sufficient grasp of the knighthood and its relation to the grid.
Hierarchy
The First Knight is the head of the brotherhood. Other than that, a loose acknowledgment of age is the only seniority that outsiders see.

Grid Relations
Knights hold an unique position in society in that they are effectively outside the law, and this means that they are feared as much as (or more than) they are respected across the Empire. It is well known that their word should be instantly obeyed, and a knight who abuses or kills a citizen or noble will almost never find any repercussion from the Keeper. Thus, most people obey knights without question. Knights have been known to take people into custody, blackmail them, torture them, or threaten them regardless of rank or political ties, if they feel it is necessary for the protection of the Empire.
