Jaylene is the eldest child of her late father, Kristian Codex, and her mother, Karyleine Codex. She has one younger brother, Tiege Codex, and is currently the lady heir to the lordship of Codex.

- Jaylene is a contented child who has never wanted for much of anything. But she hasn't become spoiled - yet anyway. She's bubbly, she's smiley, she takes naps when she ought to, and she sleeps through much of the night when properly worn out beforehand. It's really rather odd, or sickening at least, what a perfect baby she is. It's no wonder her mother dotes on her so. But her mother's indulgence also explains why Jaylene is so adventurous - always getting into mud or worms or whatever is likely to be most tasty to her, and most vexing to her nurse.

- Jaylene (seen here at her first birthday) takes quite readily after her mother's independent ways, always crawling off (it's faster than walking at this stage) and seeing what there is to see and, hopefully, put in her mouth. Lately, though, she's become a bit clingy and developed a severe aversion to heights.
- Jaylene has been subject to more than the usual number of childhood illnesses this past year, though she has pulled through them all strongly. Her mother prays often she won't have the same constitution as her late aunt and maternal grandmother.
- With Kristian's death, the Codex household underwent serious restructuring. The Codex nurse for the last three generations, Myrna, went into a well-deserved retirement and was replaced by the fresh-faced Maisie, Jaylene's and Tiege's new nurse.
