Change the Name of a Character

- In some cases Characters names change, this most often happens with weddings...but there are other reasons that a name could change. The best way to deal with this is to "Move" the Character Page and name the new version with the new name. This will automatically put a redirect in so people who go to the old character name will be forwarded to the new page. Thus not breaking any links, but letting you keep your page current without having to create a second one or any such work-around.
- To do this, simply navigate to the Character Page in question.
- Select the "Move" tab at the top of the screen and set the new name to be the new name of your Character.
- Select "Save Page" and your done!
- At this point you can go to the Character Directory and update the page to reflect your Characters new name and page. If you want to see about updating other items, while viewing your Character Page select the "What Links here" item in the toolbox to the left.
- Some notes to people doing this:
- ONLY move your page if your characters FIRST or LAST name changes, Never put a nickname or title in the page name.
- Do not move your page too many times...the chain of redirects will BREAK after the second move. If you need to move your page to a third name, please contact the Staff or a Wiki Coordinator.
- Do not change your characters name in any historical documentation, such as Timeline or RP Logs. These documents should refer to the name your character had when they happened.
