| Description
|
|
Whether ministering to the ill or patching up the endless injuries great and small found that end up at their doors, healers fill a vital role in the empire. Ranging from the most basically trained to the healers of the Imperial family, they can be found across Gateway tending to every level of society.

The most prestigious and extensive education is to be found among the colleges on Draught, particularly the College of Healing in the barony of Amphorae established in 418 A.G. While most villages on the isles have at least someone capable of patching up basic injuries, the healers of Amphorae study in advanced techniques and skills that prepare them for dealing with the most serious and severe of injuries.
Informal education can be found through the empire, usually in more remote areas where information is passed down through generations. These people are not considered healers, however, and will find it hard to gain official employment without the endorsement of the Healers Guild. Every Guardian Legionnaire should know how to apply field dressing and many Fielders have experience in treating minor ailments as well as delivering babies. Gateway University offers instruction and formal education for those who are accepted in the exclusive program and are able to pay for the tuition.
All healers, be they trained on Draught or Gateway, must swear an oath to the Healer's Guild and Draught. This is not the same as swearing fealty to the Isle, but the agreement that they will do nothing against the Isle or the Guild, lest they find them self expelled from the guild. Anyone cast out of the Guild would be refused any further training in future discoveries and find it extremely difficult to gain legitimate employment without the Guild backing (think medical license.)

| Hierarchy

- Apprentice are those within years 5-10 of training, usually beginning at 16 to 18
- Journeyman are those within years 11-20 years of training, usually beginning at 23 to 25
- Master is someone who has had completed at least 20 years of training, achieved 33 to 35 at the earliest

| Grid Relations
|
|
Most on-grid healers are at least loosely attached to the infirmary in the castle. However, often they will register there and be iterant enough to aid in the village at need, or tend a noble within the noble's room. Healers are oft considered neutral entities in any combat, and when functioning as one and wearing a healer's tabard (Imperial blue with a white cross on the back and front) are generally offered protection or aid at need.

| NPC Healers
|
|
The castle's infirmary has a dedicated staff of Healers, but PC Healers cannot always be on to help when necessary. The following is a list of some of the NPC Healers on staff, should you require one for RP purposes.
Tom - A Master Healer with a hawkish nose and dark black hair. If one was fond of Bob and his big, bushy eyebrows, one might not be fond of Tom at all. Horribly professional, to the point of being mistaken as cold, he does his job and takes it quite seriously. There is no candy in Healer Tom's pocket.
Jane - A Master Healer, possibly in her fifties with blonde hair usually worn in a tight bun and a gentle, motherly nature. She's known to be married to Healer Bob before he passed away. She is eminently practical and prefers to be very hands off, directing Healers and Apprentices to do the work. She is well known for hugging and being more than a little sweet.

| Rules of the Infirmary
|
- THE INFIRMARY IS FOR RESIDENTS OF THE CASTLE ONLY! If you are not a castle resident, you will be turned away.
- IF you are ICly ordered to stay in the infirmary for a stint of time, then please follow ICA-ICC and stick it out. If you don't feel comfortable with staying in the infirmary for an extended period of time, then contact Iorwerth and we will work something out!
- Typically when you are admitted into the infirmary, a timeframe will be set that your char should stay here. Once the time requirements have been met, or alternatives have been decided upon, you MAY leave. However, PLEASE @mail Iorwerth that you have left so that we know the flow within the infirmary, OR get ahold of Iorwerth if you are unsure of your release date.
- There is no alcohol permitted for consumption. Patients might sneak something in, but it is our duty to make sure they do not partake, as it may hinder some of the medicines given to them. Healers do not drink on duty or off while in the infirmary. Should a patient be admitted, your thinking and reactions could be hindered.
- There ARE guards within the infirmary to keep patients from leaving that aren't released, AND to escort people out that are being disruptive. You can't just get up and leave, you would be stopped. (OOC: Should there be something you think the Guards might react to, you should contact admin and ask to make sure.)
- Disorderliness is not allowed.
- Your attire must be appropriate for the infirmary. Nothing too revealing.
- There will be no sexual contact with a patient while they are in the infirmary. Nor do we allow patients to be sexually active in the infirmary. If they are found doing so, they'll promptly be turned away.
