The eldest child of Ambrose Maritus and Justina Soranus, he has only just inherited his rule over Gwencalon, the crown jewel of Guardians' cities. After time spent healing the grievous wounds he endured in an effort to save his father's life, the newly-invested Lord Gwencalon has returned home to find his place among the many leaders of his city. With Ducal and Baronial authority to contend with, he will need all the steps in the political dance Lord Ambrose attempted to teach him. As to his success, one should have little choice but to wait and see.

| History |
As the first born of the union between Lord Ambrose Maritus and Lady Justina Soranus, Grear was appropriately raised with the expectation that he would follow in the footsteps of his father, both in a career as a marine and as the next ruling lord of Gwencalon. It was in the first that his father's instruction was most appreciated. Lord Ambrose's steel will and nearly unwavering patience in the face of death did not come naturally, however, and the Maritus temper makes for a stubborn student. While as a boy Grear excelled in all things martial, his anger would remain to be his achilles heel for many years to come.
Exceedingly more difficult was the task which his mother took upon herself in trying to instill some small bit of Purist sentiment in her young son. Even with the patience of Lord Ambrose combined with the compassion of Lady Justine, Grear, a true son of Guardians, could push them to their wit's end as they endeavored to temper his wild spirit with the values of Providence. Some small amount of their teachings managed to take root, but would remain buried until a true test of faith would present itself some time after all traces of morality within the man would seem to have been snuffed out.
Relief for his parents would present itself in the form of the legions of Guardians, namely the marines. As expected, the eldest son of House Maritus would follow in the footsteps of his father and he would rise far above the expectations of even the father who fostered his abilities since he could walk. The marines allowed Lord Grear an outlet for that famous temper, contributing extensively to his sucess. Partnered with his competitive nature, the young noble rose through the ranks at a pace that was nearly without precedent, much like one of his contemporaries, Lady Asha Barca.
By age twenty-six, in 501, the Maritus lord had put in eleven years of service to the marines. In recognition for his unrivaled zealotry and devotion to the legions, he was presented with the rank of Tribune. The honor of the position would not long remain with the young lord, however. In 502, just over a year later and one month after his twenty-seventh birthday, Grear led his men in the rescue of Landry from a wereshark attack. It would prove the end of life, as defined by the career marine.
After arriving to provide aid to the forces already engaged with the beasts, Grear and his men gave their all in hours of both close-quarters and ranged combat. Fate intervened as the ship was boarded by the mysterious creatures. Buying his dwindling force time to consolidate with a nearby force of marines aboard a neighboring ship, Grear found himself within the maw of one of the enraged weresharks. By the time his men effected a rescue, his leg was ruined, ending his ambitious rise through the ranks of his beloved marines.
| Personality |
He is still the fun-loving marine he's always been at heart, only tempered by experience and what faith he has found in the face of adversity.
