Knighted under Maximilian, Faustus served faithfully for nine years before he was struck ill. The doctors declared his illness terminal, and he officially retired from active duty. Despite his retirement, though, Faustus has remained ever visible in the courts, still dressed in livery and wearing his sword. Some rumour that he is too loyal to lay it down and die, and others think he's too far feverish to realize he should have died more than ten years ago. Whatever the case, he's certainly sickly, with a hacking cough that often flecks with blood, pale skin, and no appetite to speak of.
In the year 505, Gerard Versailles went into temporary retirement, and Faustus Wolsing was drawn out of retirement and named Interim First Knight by the Emperor. During his time as First Knight, Faustus Wolsing was requierd to serve as Imperial Diplomat, negotiating with the vampires of Mists for the safe return of Tiege Soranus after Baron Athar Soranus destroyed the vampire Zipporah Gilat. At the end of 505, Faustus disappeared just in time for Gerard to return to his title. He returned in August of that same year and resumed his retirement, only this time he did not choose to live within the walls of the castle.
