Crossroads Wiki:Acceptable use policy
From Crossroads Wiki
The Crossroads MUSH Wiki is a collaboration between the Staff and the Players to document the virtual world we share. Our In-Character world is a dynamic and evolving place, and only with everyone working on the project can we hope to capture the wealth of information our community creates. Players are encouraged to create a page for their characters and to help keep the world pages up to date. Some pages are protected to ensure staff review of information, but players are encouraged to propose changes, normally via the discussion page.

Policy
The following policies apply to all users of the Wiki:
- The intent of this Wiki is to document the In-Character world of Crossroads, not to provide a platform for expressing opinions or harassing other players. Any modification of content deemed by staff to be hurtful or posted with the intent to harass may result in immediate removal of editing privileges.
- Do not use the Wiki for information unrelated to Crossroads MUSH, with the following exceptions:
- Link Page: May be used direct readers to MUSH or general Roleplay resources
- OOC Community pages: There for having fun, do not have to relate to the IC world, but generally should contribute to the game playing community
- Do not post Copyrighted material without permission of the copyright holder. Players assume responsibility for the content on their character pages.
- Permission from ALL persons participating in a logged RP session must give consent to its publication PRIOR to the log being posted.
- In-Game Admins will be responsible for any and all disciplinary actions. Wiki Maintainers only deal with Wiki content and helping Users on the site.
Content Guidelines
We ask that you follow a few simple guidelines for content on the site, this includes your character page.
- Please break your content up into readable sections and paragraphs. Feel free to make use of Subpages when appropriate. View the source of existing pages for examples.
- Add Category tags to the bottom of your pages!
- Pictures are nice, but this is not a photo album. Please limit your character pages to a maximum of five images with a combined size no larger than 500KB.
- Unless there is compelling reason to do otherwise, please limit your use of colors. The MediaWiki format allows users to "skin" their pages and changing only select colors on your pages may make them unreadable in other formats.
- Content is king, however presentation is important. Remember, the goal is to relay information to others and that should come first. Only after the structure and content of the pages are done should you begin to work on stepping up the wow factor.
Editing Requirements
These rules come from best practices at sites like Wikipedia. Please read and follow them, repeated failure to do so may result in the loss of ability to update the site.
- Always include a Summary with each edit: Wiki's are a collaborative effort, please help the Staff and Wiki maintainers by adding a simple description of each change you make to the site...this includes to your character page.
- Note minor edits: Some changes are minor, such as "Added link to the Emperors page in paragraph 2". Please note small changes by checking the "This is a minor edit" box.
- Do not make substantial changes to pages in Category:Game Information without Admin or Wiki Maintainer permission. Corrections to typographical or grammatical errors are acceptable; adding or removing information or making significant layout changes are not.
- If you make a change, and it is backed out do NOT re-apply the change. Note who reversed the change and talk to them or a Wiki Maintainer about it.
Wiki: For the new user
The Staff and Wiki Maintainers understand that the goal of playing on Crossroads is to RP and not all players will enjoy spending time building this site. Therefor we have created a set of step-by-step documents to help players with common tasks. Our hope is that this will allow those who do not wish to become Wiki experts the ability to partake in the site without large investments of time.
Please see the Howto section for a list of documents currently avaliable. If you need to accomplish something which is not documented, please let the Wiki Maintainers know so they can add the process!
Wiki Formatting Help
The Wiki markup language is far more simple then HTML, which is not that complex. Below are some links to Wiki resources, please remember that it is always best to start simple and work your way up. You can also look at the pages on this site to see how things were accomplished, even protected pages allow users to view the source.
