He was born a thorough bred, he didn’t realize it at the time but just like livestock on Green Fields he was created from the selection of bloodlines and strengths they yield. Not for political gain or to one day seize hold of any land by having him lay claim to it as a rightful heir. But for the advancement of magic, control, creativity, comprehension, power. Desirable qualities when pairing mage to magess, conception was often the easiest part. One party, two mages, a few drinks a pinch of the right drugs and isolate them in a room to let nature take its course. The Order of Icarus had many methods to get what they wanted, not all as crude and simple as that. But still, even steel has to be tempered right to make the best sword.

Brendan was born a bastard, his father unknown and out of the picture leaving him in the hands of his mother and the Order of Icarus. Growing up in Port Polaris he had easy access to the Fang and teachers, or rather they had easy access to him and the rigors they wanted to force him through in endless pursuit to make the perfect mage. A natural with transportation magic, it seemed like his father had played more of a pivotal role then originally thought in the outcome of Brendan. Gabriel Davenport was a notable mage in the fields of Transportation and Scrying, few others new his works also extended into illusion but his theories and methods in scrying were breaking grounds and made for promising discoveries if he kept working in that field while already progressing far in transportation. So it became a little alarming when Brendan spoke out the desire to learn illusion, even just a facet of it. At first he was denied, flat out told no. Wanting to keep this thorough bred focusing on just one sphere to maximize potential. This restrictive lifestyle however, began to wear on the young prodigy and rebellion was inevitable. Transporting furniture and silverware into the wall so half stuck out and half was forever lost was among the more minor devious deeds done till his teachers yielded at least a little. His primary focus would still be transportation and he could pick a few facets of illusion but even then the lessons would always be biased to transportation and if he didn’t perform to expectation he’d miss out on the lessons of illusions he wanted. As the years passed on, he advanced swiftly through the ranks with his transportation magic, honing and refining even simple spells of object mobility with agility and control to the point of guiding thread the eye of a needle without his hands. Advanced studies looked at gateways, portals and port keys over self and other teleportation. It was these same studies that began to draw him to the Order of Oberon or more to the point, the order to him, with some of his theories about anchoring and targets in teleportation or the effects of a dual anchor invoked on the principle before targeting to slow or shift the point of destination though perhaps randomly. The most extreme was a hypothesis on deconstructing and repurposing ‘blink’, a common transportation spell that allows a mage to slip beyond this plane for a moment. Believing that this ‘in between’ might be the key to finding new destinations This wasn’t the only research Brendan was performing though, with a need to know who his father was, feeling that played an important role in who he was and identifying himself he spent what precious time he could scrape up trying to pry into the mystery of who his father was. That’s when he found the lists, or more importantly, what he was. A name in a book listed on one side with potential suitors on the other, some names he recognized, people he had met or been introduced to at parties. On other pages were more familiar names, one particular was a couple he knew that were getting married, primarily because of an unplanned pregnancy – or so the scandalous rumors proclaimed. The confrontation with his mother didn’t go well, Paige Worthington was a proud woman and determined to keep the boy’s father a secret so as not to lose the boy to the influences of a man not part of the order. Although she never confirmed his suspicion about being with Icarus, she never out right denied them and the seed of doubt and mistrust was placed within Brendan. The rift between child and parent continued to grow, allowing the Order of Oberon to draw him in even deeper, till the arrest of Gabriel Davenport forced the hand of Paige. The plan was simple, reveal his father was apparently a demon worshipper and that they merely tried to protect him from that and win him back over. But armed with a name, Brendan became more determined to learn what he could about this man while he could. Brendan’s name got moved from the potential suitor’s list. Branded as tainted or at least potentially, the Order of Icarus watch from afar to see if he is more like his father then they had realized or if this line can still be saved and contributed to the next generation of powerful mages. |
Life on Gateway
| The Curse |
|---|
|
Brendan arrival on Gateway was a quiet appearance, some time after the execution of his father, Gabriel Davenport, one of Vox's close cohorts. For the first 18 months he was never seen by night, always rushing off before the sun set. His curse was a close kept secret, one he carried in fear and shame and only trusted a few individuals to tell. Charges of assault on a noble lead to his arrest and a myriad of other charges laid upon him that were all eventually dropped and blamed on the curse placed on him. Events surrounding his release are best left to gossip, talk of Knights leading the prisoner through the university to one of the labs saved for magical discussion where eventually he was joined by the Duke, his Chamberlain, a Mezelien and an Erastothenes only to be carried to the infirmary and eventually released. Visitors were noted to be many, Lachesis, Larimar, Lady Kyrie and even Baronette Ravelle Soranus paid court to his bedside during his recovery. But since then he's been more reclusive in nature and not near as social. Rumors bubbled up of his magic being taken away. |
| Come and go, waxing and waning.. |

A brawl at the time of the virtues auction, during the arm wrestling competition, seemed to mark his return to social life and the return of his magic. The mage instigating the ruckus during a round with the Tribes woman Gwyneth and barely able to pull himself and Magess Petrova out as the angry mob came down on the magic users - Much to the Duke Greenfields amusement and entertainment. Though the earth magess and the transportation mage seemed to strike a quick friendship, it burned out just as quick when Petrova never returned from a journey back from Mists. Further friendships turned fickle and faded when the blonde couple Larimar and Lachesis stopped paying visits to the stormy mage's apartment in the fairview. Till a final altercation on Keeper north between Master Mage and Journeyman proved that some friendships cannot stand the test of time. |
| Tides of change |
|---|
|
Aside from the comings and goings of friends in his personal life, 507 saw a number of changes for the Master Mage. Running along side others in a competition in spring to become Imperial Chamberlain. While he never achieved the position, his part in the celebrations in Seal Cove netted him some connections and seems to be a place he still frequents. A man of strange luck, found himself the lucky winner of a merchant vessel in the summer, a ship named 'Veil Runner' and subsequently joined the Merchants Guild in the transportation of goods. The beginnings of a new avenue for the mage from Polaris Port, or at least another source of revenue, though where this business venture will take him remains to be seen. Still his research and studies continue, expanding his knowledge of magic into the dimensional sphere - perhaps a natural progression from being a member of the Order of Oberon. But the changes the year has brought, along with some of the friendships he's gained, including a curious one in a water mage, Bernadette has left the mage looking healthier, more invigorated, like some of the hardships of recent years was wiped from his face - if not from his eyes. His gaze and reach stretches, turning his eyes to recent events, magical happenings, magical creatures and rumors spread of the man seeking others with like interests. |

Order of Icarus
Bathsheba Corinthus: Bathsehba became his fast friend as a youth, co-conspirator, and-- later-- inspired her to take up Transportation in addition to Illusion. He even encouraged her further in her studies, so that she learned faster for a while. But despite the both of them being on Gateway, whatever rift caused them to part ways doesn't appear to have been mended and the two seldom speak or even cross paths.
Bernadette Rowle: A mediator during the conflict between Brendan and Larimar, the pair have been seen in company with growing frequency. Striking something of a tentative friendship.
Briony Marchora: The Baroness of Burgundy Terrace is something of a curious friend, the pair often having been seen out in public together but from quiet talks on the beach to fights in the tavern shows that their friendship has more then it's fair share of ups and downs. A friendship that seemed to have ended with his incarceration - for since the pair have not been seen together.
Time can heal many things, but it still seems to have some work to do as far as Brendan and Briony are concerned. Their friendship if it can be called that still blowing hot and cold if the public arguments and debates are anything to go by, yet still she took him to Greenfields to help deal with certain matters so it can't all be bad.
Years have passed now, since the kindling of their tempestuous relationship, but still they call each other in times of need, meet and talk with that same strange tension and chemistry between the two - most likely a heated friendship that will endure more then either expects, even if they're not as close as they once were.
Kyrie Mezelien: Daemonologist and friend. Despite his assault on her that lead to his arrest, Brendan and Kyrie formed a good friendship. Working with the Lady on a number of occaisons and seeing her one last time at the Double Eclipse before she too disapeared like other friends of his during the years.
Cynara Dhaval: Neighbor and Acquaintence, he came to learn of her when Duke Phineas hired her to help him during his incarceration. Someone he seemed to get along well enough with but paths rarely seem to cross. Though recent events have turned his opinion of her considerably more sour and the mentioning of her name doesn't sit well with the broody Mage.
Lux Fields: From the Docks to the Baths, these two have had seldom few encounters but when you're dealing with a Doxy you can bet everyone of them is saucy - for someone.
Zaire: A fiesty sailor that seems to have hit some hard times, or had when last he had seen her. A close friend of Lux, he first met the pair in the Dockside tavern 'torturing' a poor would be Purist.
Petrova Kordheim: For all their encounters and clear friendship, the most noticeable and memberable are those is of the brawl something that can truly test the limits of friendship when the two stuck together against Guardians and Fielders. A friendship that seems to have withered with her disapearance to Mists again.
Raelyn Toranna: She's been spotted a few times in Brendan's company, even stopping by his suite. This would appear to be a more quieter friendship and not quite as rough and rowdy as the relationship with her sister.
Elizabeth Rhone: A childhood friend, someone his mother steered him towards and likely for her own reasons. Still over the years their friendship has remained in tact though their lives seem to have drifted them apart.
Eleanor Caprios: The Princess and the Former Prisoner, a curious coupling to be sure and one that could likely set tongues a wagging, if it wasn't for the business like nature of their discussion in the Ocean View and him seeking a teaching position in the University.
Cadenza: Someone new in his life, a mentor of sorts from the Order of Icarus helping him adjust to his role within the magical society.
Rourke Caprios: For a while, besides just calling him Majesty, he also called him boss when he tried out for the position of Imperial Chamberlain. Even though he performed well in that role, it was deemed he'd be better suited to another position, something that has yet to come to fruition.
Philomena Caprios: The Empress and is 'other boss' during his tryout for Imperial Chamberlain, working more closely with her then the keeper to make sure things met the Imperial standard.
