Magical Enforcer/Martial Inventor

Let us therefor arm ourselves and be ready to face the Demons themselves, never wavering nor faltering as the dark gates of the very Hells stand open before us, knowing that in our hands we wield the weapons of Providence, forged a mixture of godly might and human ingenuity. What could possibly stop a force so armed? Nothing; nothing save our own hubris. — Bailey Guybrush

History

Bailey was not born into the lap of luxury. Nobility, in Shadrach's Folly, is a chore more than a privilege. So it is that from his youngest years, Bailey learned the value of hard work, prudent decisions, and careful planning. He learned to hunt, to fish, to survive on his own, to walk quietly and be a part of the natural world around him, and like most of the people on Mists, Bailey also began the study of magic at the age of 5. And like most of the people of Shadrach's Folly, at the age of 13 he chose a focus in transportation magics. Unlike most of his peers, though, Bailey found the study of magic to be missing some crucial component. While his younger brothers were devoting themselves to the task of becoming wizards, Bailey chose to branch away from his studies and traveled to Draught. Not even yet a journeyman mage, Bailey was jeered for his desire to study engineering, rather than magic.

He spent three years more in Draught than at home, studying the basic principals of mechanics and devices, and by the end of his initial studies, he had devised a somewhat ingenious (if useless) clockwork device for timing his cooking. An egg timer he called it, but everyone thought he was mad. Still, Bailey had found an interesting aside to his tutoring. News of his father's ailing health, though, brought Bailey quickly back to Shadrach's Folly. For the next five years, Bailey began slowly assisting his father in his role as eldest son. He resumed his study of magic, and even branched out to begin the study of elements that are often necessary in taming the wilds of the land.

Bailey attained his Journeyman status in Transportation only a few days before his father's death. It was a bittersweet accomplishment. He didn't relish the study of magic, but it had made his father happy to see him finally claiming his birthright. He was still only a beginner in elements, but with his father's death, Bailey felt loathe to cease his studies again for fear of dishonoring the former Lord Shadrach's Folly. That was the title that now belonged to Bailey, and he had a responsibility to take up his father's mantle. So Bailey remained, studying magic from his younger brother of all people. But he never gave up his passion for inventing, and so he took time off--here and there--to travel back to Draught. He never remained for more than three months at a time, and rarely even that long. But with each trip he learned.

Eventually, Bailey achieved Journeyman status in Elemental magic. That was a year ago, and he's mastered his Transportation as well. With the help of his younger brothers, Shadrach's Folly has been well maintained even during his brief periods of absence. But since his father's death none of them have questioned his rulership; none would try, he has proven himself devoted and capable despite his slower study in magic. Bailey has also begun study on a crossbow, working by collaboration with another student from Draught with the intention of developing a crossbow that can reset itself after it is fired. Thus far, the daunting task has proven entirely beyond them both, but they're unwilling to give up on it. Periodically, they travel to Gateway to meet on the subject.
