Much of Athar's formulative years were spent in the tutelage of private instructors and tutors in Ethos proper, where he learned as much of the sciences and philosophy as he did of running a household and practicing his faith. But at the age of fifteen, it was decided that the young lord should attend the College in Draught, and so he did just that.
While most students were given to proclivities beyond their studies that included many of the various drugs famed for their abuse by pleasure seekers, wild parties and physical improprieties, the purist Athar remained quite above the fray. Instead, he focused hard on his studies, managing to win the respect and regard of several of his peers with his many documented debates on a whole ream of issues. While some circled to the topic of the Purist faith, just as many were of other ethical or scientific issues that he spoke with an equal passion for. Medicine caught his interest, and Athar spent a good deal of time learning of the internal workings of the human body before he was called back to Ethos, and put into service as Baronet.
It was during this time of travel about Draught and Ethos in particular that Athar made many acquaintances and friendships that would assist him in successfully governing, or follow him to his later time upon Gateway Isle. The tragedy that saw his cousin Ysora come to Healer's Hall drew him from his duties for a short while, as he attended her bedside there. While there he met the purist and healer Imani Paggion, and while they have not crossed paths often since, it is said correspondence still travels between them. The lull in duties was short-lived however, as Athar's work only continued even as his cousins Leon and Portia eventually made their way to Ethos.
All of this culminated in a rare honour; Athar was tasked with escorting the young Empress Philomena Caprios through the lands of his father, hosting and guiding the woman through all save the capital of Ethos itself, where his father Galen held elaborate celebrations to mark the Empress' arrival, and to recall the old friendship between long-dead scions of the Caprios and Soranus lines.
It was not very long after that Galen Soranus was dead, and his son forced to take upon his father's mantle.
For two years Athar delved into the process of taking over his father's vast responsibilities, sitting at the head of a barony, a deeply interconnected family and a burgeoning, pious faith. Seeing to his new duties, including his reluctant decision to see good a contract between the Lords of Codex and Ethos for the hand of his youngest sister Karyleine, consumed every moment of waking time.
Athar Soranus arrived with his sisters upon the shores of Gateway not long after with little fanfare, the group of them soon followed by several of their cousins from Draught and Guardian both. Followers of a faith that saw its flickering start extinguished from the capital three generations past, little was initially known about Athar or the precepts he seemed to represent.
