Open Pasture North - Northern Gateway Isle
- The sloping pasture stretches down from the city walls to the road, a wide open space ringed with trees. It shows the markings of passage at all seasons of the year.
- In spring, the area is abundant with people and activity, the grass trampled down as the festival preparations take place. The trees that ring the pasture are bright with the new green of the season, and the wildflowers and grass compete to survive amidst the many people who pass by. The permanent tents are set up in the Southern pasture, but the northern is a place for people to relax and rejuvinate, and where the dances and large gatherings take place. A large, slightly raised wooden floor at the meadow's center can function as a stage, dancing area, or general gathering spot.
- It's cloudy, warm and gusty. It's raining.
- Tonight, a number of tent poles have been driven into the ground to provide strong support for a pavillion of green and gold and burgundy. It covers the dancing area and a fair amount beyond it, and beneath it a number of log benches have been erected to serve for the ceremony. Sawdust has been layered among the greenery and ground to keep things clean and a bit dry, despite the rain. On top of that, though, are garlands of flowers everywhere. Green vines with blue flowers twine up the posts and decorate the underside of the canopy. Flower petals trail up the center isle, and the whole area has a frangrance of spring. Lanterns hang from myriad positions in the canopy, their crystal and glass sidings reflecting and refracting the light within so the place is ablaze, regardless of the darkness.
Wedding cake
Three tiers of apple cake make up the wedding Cake, each square getting smaller as it levels up. A honey glaze make the top of the baked good shimmer a bit. Fresh honeysuckle flowers have been sprinkled along the tops of each layer where they show for decoration.
Phineas saunters through the rain toward the canopy that's been set up, a grin warm across his features. He drags a hand through his hair as he gets under the edge, slicking back water. His bare feet make little sound as he heads for the stage area, though his bruised features are notable. Seeing the high titles present, he does bow toward Eleanor and Mena. "Hey there Imperials!" he calls welcomingly.
The Empress continues to watch people come in, smiling cheerfully in greeting as she tips her head. When the officiant and groom enter, her lips quirk slightly in some amusement, though more at the former than the latter. "Hello there, Your Grace. Looking quite fine," she quips with a chuckle. Good thing the canopy is strong, with the harder rain. Mae arrives from the main road. Mae has arrived.
Ellie looks up, as it begins to rain harder. Just so long as it doesn't start leaking on people.
Princess Eleanor smiles in seeing Phineas and Caspian make their entry. Quiet as she moves to find a seat. Her knights in tow.
Kreshnik arrives from the main road. Kreshnik has arrived. Helena arrives from the main road. Helena has arrived. Godfrey arrives from the main road. Godfrey has arrived. Ravelle arrives from the southern pasture lands. Ravelle has arrived. Mateo arrives from the southern pasture lands. Mateo has arrived.
Four knights do stand around the Empress where she is already seated for the wedding, watching as people drift in from the rain beyond the tent, greeting people silently when they might look in her direction.
Ravelle arrives in the rain-dappled setting with the Vandalusian prince, her hand resting lightly upon his sleeve. She converses warmly with him, her free hand elegantly stirring the air in subtle emphasis of whatever she is saying. She pauses just within the area to survey all who have collected and begins quietly pointing out who is who to Mateo.
Lily sits silently on one of the benches, idly examining her hands. Phineas gets up at the platform and shakes some sawdust off of his bare feet, skims some rain off of his garments. At least he didn't bring a tankard.
Caspian arrives not far behind the Duke, seemingly unbothered by the rain. Hell, it rained during the dance and no one seemed to mind that much! And so Caspian is all grins as he approaches the wedding site, taking in the decorations and the canopy. "Wow." Ahem. "Your Grace!" said to the Duke as he approaches. "You're looking well.." he notes with a smirk. Ravelle leans in to murmur, She mutters to Mateo, "I don't... you've... the Empress... is... Emperor's... Princess... of... sister,... Soranus.... groom,... do not see... out... the event."
With a chuckle toward Caspian, Phineas agrees, "Damn but I am, aren't I? I love a good brawl. So did ya decide, someone givin' ya away, or am I skippin' that part? And ya look just great, ya know. Feelin' fine? Not goin' ta pass out on me or anythin'?" Nick is on duty which means he's quiet. More of background. But true to his word to Caspian he's here. He's suppose to be keeping an eye on Mena and Eleanor but you know he can take a gander over the wedding ceremony and do his job after all. A nod given to Caspian when he sees him.
A few musicians gather in one corner of the canopy, just far enough in to not feel the effects of the rain. A fiddle, a lap harp, and a recorder. The three chatter merrily as they prepare. The fiddler looks rather drunk. Savannah tugs a cloak about her, but she wears a brigth smile for the couple. The hood enough to hide away most of her features save the redhair that pokes out.
Godfrey arrives with very little fanfare. It may have to do with the fact that he isn't wearing his uniform, nor is he carrying his battle axe. These two items tend to identify the Sheriff wherever he is. But without them, he is just ... Lyolf. He makes his way through, rumbling a considerate "Excuse me" as he parts portions of the crowd.
Mateo steps out of the rain to the shelter of the tent. His gaze sweeps the area as he takes in the fielder culture. He listens to Ravelle as she explains to him who the people are. He raises a brow as his gaze falls upon Mena, then again as he looks toward Eleanor. He nods to Ravelle, tilting his head to the whisper.
Ellie, looking around idly and not yet having found a seat, notices Ravelle and makes her way over towards her. "Milady." she greets with a polite curtsy, not wanting to interrupt the conversation.
Helena arrives a little after her sister, wearing a warm smile and seems to be ignoring the rain. She moves towwards her sister's side, lightly brushing her hand to Ravelle's untaken arm in a gesture of greeting. She doesn't know the man with her sister, but she gives him a similar smile and a nod. "Evening, Ravelle," she greets, sounding quite cheering, unlike herself, really.
Caspian grins a bit and bobs his head when near the Duke, swiping wet hair from his eyes. Gotta love the rain! "Skipping," he notes with a smirk. "And I'm feelin' .. alright. But I'm happy to know that feeling like I may pass out is normal.." said as he makes a face. "Woke up feeling that way.." He flashes a grin towards Nick, having spotted him in the forming crowd of guests and onlookers.
It begins to rain harder.
Phailin arrives from the main road. Phailin has arrived.
Aileana is already seated, her gaze turning towards the sound of her husband. A smile splits her face and she gives a little wave.
Upon seeing Ellie, Ravelle's smile turns radiant for the young girl. "Miss Ellie. It is so good to see you." And then Helena is there at her side and returns that subtle pass of hand. "Good evening, Hel." Turning obliquely, she introduces, "Your Highness, allow me to introduce my lovely sister, Lady Helena Soranus, and this charming young woman is Miss Ellie Clapton, a future healer of the Empire."
Ravelle continues, "This is Prince Mateo de la Vega of Vandalusia, newly arrived."
Lily tucks her cloak more snugly around herself as the rain begins to pour harder, her eyes lifting from her hands to look around quietly.
Stockton, Orley, O'Keefe, and Hammy are gathered in a close-knit circle. Godfrey follows the plume of smoke rising from Stockton's pipe, making his way over and greeting the man with a clap on the shoulder. "Weather's just right for Caspian to get married, eh?" "Buried is more like it," says the pessimist with a pipe. Romance is dead to him.
Liam arrives from the main road. Liam has arrived. Katie arrives from the main road. Katie has arrived.
Duchess Aileana sits down at the Front seats.
Puddles are going to ruin her dress! Mae hikes up her skirts as she does her best to avoid mud puddles and things that'll just ruin her outfit! There's no way she's going to miss this wedding. Stupid weather. She tromps onto the field, "oooh"ing at the setup. And cake. What kid doesn't notice wedding cake right off the bat?
"As long as ya didn't wake up with a hangover, yer feelin' the way ya should be," Phineas says with a chuckle of sympathy. "Ya goin' off on a trip anywhere? Ole Sheriff givin' ya long enough of a time ta celebrate ta do so?"
"Your highness, a great pleasure," Helena offers to Mateo after casting her sister a brief look as she fusses with her cloak. Ellie is given a smile as well. "Good to see you again Miss Clapton," she says, nodding to the girl as that smile lingers. Who knew! Maybe Helena just really likes weddings. "We should find a place to sit," she tells her sister.
Mena's gaze is drawn toward the Purist sisters and the strange man standing nearby them, studying the situation with dark eyes, only briefly before her attention moves over the crowd as a whole once more. "This rain is something else," she mentions to those sitting nearby.
Mateo bows his head slightly to the two that he is introduced to, "The pleasure is mine." he says in an his Vandalusian accent. His gaze turns once more toward Mena, then back to Ravelle, "Perhaps we should take a seat?" he asks. The Prince seems preoccupied for a moment, before offering a brief smile.
"Oh!" Ellie exclaims at the introduction and another, deeper, curtsy is directed to Mateo. "A pleasure to meet you, Your Highness." And then she turns and gives another curtsy to Helena, "Milady."
The musicians in the corner laugh a bit, and then the drunken fiddler begins a slow intraductory melody, bowing slowly up the strings in a sweet building of excitement. Drunk he may be, but his music is still clear above the crowd, that call for everyone to pay attention, sit down, shut up, things are about to start.
Lin slips in late. Bad florist. Probably having to tide up after helping put all the flowers out. Slipping into a seat as quietly as she can.
"Even the Empress came out to bear witness to this wedding," comments Orley as he peers in the direction of said royalty. O'Keefe twists his body to take note, but then all of the guards decide to comply with the musician. A fiddler on the stage. Sounds crazy, no?
Caspian takes in another deep breath as he scans the faces of the crowd, standing there with Phineas on the platform. On the platform. Does he know all of these people? He grins at familiar faces, which most of them are, then speaks to the Duke. "'D like to take her to the Fields once the currents shift," he says, glancing to the musicians as the fiddler plays. His heartbeat picks up, but he does a grand job of looking cool, calm, and collected .. for the most part.
Helena offers a curtsey in Mena's direction when the Empress's gaze falls on them. She rises and follows her sister to some open seats to await the start of the ceremony.
Ravelle indicates the seats and invites, "Your choice of locations, Your Highness. I'd be happy to introduce you to the Empress and the Princess afterward." She shares a glance with her sister before smiling down at Ellie. "Come, let us sit." She does curtsy to Mena at that glance.
Seats, seats... AH-HA! Conveniently there are some seats left right up front, and Mae scampers towards them. "Hi Sheriff Godfrey!" she calls. "Hi Guard Stockton! Guard Orley! Guard O'Keefe! Guard Hammy!" Oh yes, she knows them all, and despite the fact that it looks as if only nobility sitting there in the front row, Mae joins them. Oh yes, she's a VIP in this ceremony. Or at least, she thinks so.
Lily loosely links her fingers in front of her, resting them over her rather swollen stomach.
The knights present remain tight around both the Empress and the Princess, always alert and scanning for dangers that might arise.
Once people are beginning to get seated, the watcher spots the bridal party coming. He runs up to the musicians and tries to get the attention of the fiddler. This takes a while, intoxicated as the fiddler is, and the man is lost in his own world of music and creation. Then, finally, a clout on his shoulder draws him from his private reverie and has a harsh squawk of the violin. The fiddler looks about with a, "Wuh?", sees the runner, and grins. He nods to the other two, and all in concert, the three begin the rich, warm melody played at so many weddings over the years. It peals out in a promise of hope, stately to be in time with the approach of Katie.
Katie
A few curls of strawberry blonde hair float about her face this day framing it. Her hair has been plaited continuously starting at her temples down to the nape of her neck where the two braids met. Tucked back threw the plaiting, the remaining length falls freely down her back to her waist. Braided into the plaits are cream colored silk ribbons which the ends fall down her back the length of her back as well. A circlet of honeysuckle sit atop of everything. A soft shade of peach shadow lays along the her eye lids, bringing out the sky blue shade of the eyes beneath. Her cheeks hold their natural shade of peaches mixed with cream while her lips have been painted a light coral shade. The cosmetics used with restraint, to accent only. A few thin golden colored bracelets chime softly at her both her wrists as they move.
Soft peach and cream mix together to look a picture of spring. Raw silk of peach forms the bodice of the gown. The neckline is low yet still chaste, small delicate drapes of the fabric laying just off the shoulders against her upper arms are the only sleeves seen. Following the natural curve of her waist the bodice dips down at the front center in a soft curve instead of a point. Leaves and vines twist along the top edge of the gown in small delicate seed beads of sage green glass pearl. Blooming within them are honeysuckle blossoms in a light yellow color that sparkle amid the light green foliage. Cascading from under the bodice are skirts of peach raw silk. The skirts are cut full and pleated evenly along the waistline. Brushing the floor in the front and sides, the skirts round up at the back creating an opening as they met each other at the center of the back of the bodice. Within the opening can be seen three tiers of cream silk densely gathered. Edging the bottom of each of each tier are narrow sage green satin ribbons. The flowers and greenery from the bodice can be seen again along the hem of the skirt even as it turns upwards and climbs. At the juncture where everything meets at the back yellow honeysuckle have been fashioned out of the beads in a real life representation of them as they sit among leaves crafted of the beads as well.
Ellie falls silent and follows the others to sit in the rear seats. She arranges her skirts neatly and then, with a brief glance at Ravelle, sits up almost perfectly straight.
Duke Phineas stands ramrod straight upon the platform, saying something quiet to Caspian as the music starts and he watches the approach of the female. He mutters to Caspian, "... looks... Caspian...."
You sense Duke Phineas stands ramrod straight upon the platform, saying something quiet to Caspian as the music starts and he watches the approach of the female. "She looks gorgeous, Caspian. Just beautiful. Don't forget to breathe."
The clouds begin to clear a bit, leaving a few wispy streaks behind in the night sky.
Nick's taken the job to keep an eye out for those that may wish to disrupt the wedding. Scowling all the while before his attention falls back on the Princess and Empress.
Ravelle grants Ellie an approving glance, her lips tracing upward before she turns her attention back to the platform.
Somewhere at the far end of that tent, safe from the rain and weather, Katie and Liam stand together, the blushing bride on her surrogate brother's arm, who looks about as pleased as punch to be there, beaming nearly as he stands with her. The music starts. Liam passes a smile down to Katie and winks, murmuring something to her before taking that first step rather deliberately slow, accentuating it. His lop-sided lope evened out for the occasion, slowed as he starts to guide his 'sister' down that long walk toward her husband to be.
Here we go. Caspian says little more after speaking to the Duke, and he stands there, looking a little rigid. A little stiff. His nervousness seems to be showing through a bit, and his hands clasp behind his back to slightly fidgit out of view. And then the music, then Katie's approach. His chin elevates a little as he watches Liam and Katherine, swallowing down a breath before remembering to do just as he's been advised to. Breathe. A look is given to the Duke, accompanied with a small grin before he looks back towards his soon to be wife, transfixed.
The man with the violin, having had a few too many ales, switches keys abruptly in the middle of the song. He's lucky that the man with the recorder and the woman with the lap harp are good at their playing, for after only a couple of off notes, they adjust for the shift and the melody sings along to honor the approach of Katie and Liam.
Lin offers a smile to Liam as she watches her husband escort Katie. Her smile remaining for Katie. Taking a hand she kisses it and than waves it to the pair before she shifts again in her seat so she's facing forward and can watch Caspian and his reaction.
Mena smiles warmly as the bride comes into view, her attention on the wedding now and no longer the crowd around her.
Katie had a cloak around her while walking over to the tent. No use is getting all fancied up only to arrive looking like a drowned rat after all. Once under the pavilion the cloak is set aside and left on an empty spot on a bench. Liam's whispered words are returned with a slight nod and a brilliant smile though, as they start the last of that walk, eye firmly fixed upon the man waiting for her there. Hopefully not looking as nervous as she feels.
Mateo looks toward the bride as she enters, a smile spreading on his face. He nods once toward Ravelle in an approving manner, before looking back toward the platform.
The musicians continue their artful rendition of the traditional wedding song, coming to a climax right when Katie reaches the front of things. A few more bars continue in triumphant joy while they get situated line with Caspian. Only then does the music fade away, the violinist doing a few improvisational musical glissandos right at the end. When they silence, all three reach for ale waiting nearby.
Ravelle leans in towards Mateo, though not close enough to compromise propriety, as she points out additional people in the crowd.
Ellie sits quietly now and tries very hard not to look bored, since she doesn't think this part is very exciting at all.
Liam slips a glance toward the musicians, looking over the crowd as he leads to the end of that run, dropping a quick wink to Lin as she blows a kiss and wave to them. Slowing as they approach the end, drawing to a stop, his crutch is pinned beneath his arm, free hand moving to pat Katie's hand reassuringly. Not wavering under that fanfare of musicians, the man hasn't looked his proud and steadfast since his other sister's knighting. He looks toward Caspian, a smile lifting with another token of reassurance for the couple.
Breathing commenced, Caspian has eyes only for Katie, calmed by the warm look in her eyes as she's brought to the front of the area. He smiles now, the look natural on his face. No traces of nervousness there, only genuine joy to be seen on his face now. His hand reaches out for hers, his grin broadening now. "You look ... radiant, but that hardly does you justice," he says, voice very low, sounding marveled.
Mateo leans over to murmur something to Ravelle, whispering quietly, as his eyes travel across the area curiously. He glances once more the Mena, then back to Eleanor, before returning his gaze to the events on the platform...
Mae giggles at something that's been said near to her, and she covers her mouth as she gleams up at O'Keefe. But then, wide eyes are back on Katie and the deputy, and she waves a hand briskly, juuuust to make sure they're both aware that she's there.
At some point during the event another Forester arrives. Appearing on the periphery and remaining there throughout, Phoenix is easily ignored. Katie finally gets to the front. That walk doesn't look long but it feels like forever. Glancing quickly to the Duke before her eyes are back to her beloved. Though at his words.. She just blushed and can't seem to speak at all for the moment.
Phineas waits in silence with his bare feet planted a pace apart amidst the blossoms that cover the stage, until the approaching pair of Liam and Katie are before him and the music reaches its climax and denouement. When they are, he speaks in his rolling and familiar drawl, but there's an undercurrent of simple happiness to it; the duke is enjoying the occasion.
"Family and neighbors, because yer all one or the other of those, we're all gathered here tonight to see the joining of this man and woman in the wonderful state known as wedded bliss. But, before we do so, I think we should ask, will it be bliss?" Phin's brows jounce up and down as he looks about the crowd. "Will these two be able to find wedded bliss? Well, let me take a moment and tell you about them." He grins broady and turns slightly toward Caspian.
"This here man, Caspian Fernwick, now our Deputy Sheriff," says Phineas, gesturing to the groom, "Well now, I've known him a long time. We've not always seen eye to eye, it's true, but ya can tell a lot about a man by the grit he displays when the chips are down, and I've seen him stay true to himself through circumstances that break men, seen him go through hardship and struggle, and come out on the far side always a bit stronger, a bit wiser, a bit surer. His love for the people of this Empire has sometimes set him walkin' a path that's contrary to rank and title, but he's never swerved from that. He's a man worthy ta have the protection of the citizenry as Deputy, and a man who has cared fer people in all circumstance." Phineas looks at Caspian for a long moment before nodding. "He's got the stuff it takes ta make love last a lifetime. And this girl here...."
"This gal, Katherine, she's as sweet as a woman can be, giving to those in need, plying her trade as an honest craftsman. Craftswoman. It takes great patience to create such wonders as her mind, fabrics, needle, thread, scissors, and whatever else seamstresses use-- hell, I wouldn't know, I ain't never sewn anythin' in my life-- and that's the patience to look at somethin' all in pieces and have the vision of what it could be. It's a particular kind of mind, that, one which can craft love from hunger, and hope from tatters. Good complement to a man that has solid direction and determination. So, wedded bliss ahead?"
Now, the Duke of Green Fields focuses exclusively on the pair before him, even if his words are given volume enough to carry throughout the area. He smirks and pronounces, "Scorched Fields, no. There ain't no such thing as wedded bliss. There's fights and sleeplessness and hunger and headaches and working too late and pressures, so many things that creep in, more when children come along. But I'll tell ya both, if ever I've looked at a pair of people and thought they might have what it takes to go down in romance stories, it's the two of you. Every mornin' when ya get up, be sure ta kiss each other and remember what it is that every struggle of the day is for, and how the valuable love ya share is worth protectin' against the encroach of time, the advances of others, and anythin' that would get in the way. Fight fer it with every breath and beat of yer heart, and let it be the light that guides yer way in darkness, the warmth that ya share with one another to keep from shiverin' in the cold. Let it be the foundation of yer world together, for there ain't no other world but that, henceforth. So...."
Finally, the verbose duke seems done with his advice and jawing, inclined to get to the actual wedding part, and now his words become more solid and intent, as does his gaze that he fixes upon the husband-to-be. "Caspian, do ya take this gal Katie ta be yer wife, ta have and hold, shelter and support, on the sunlit path or in the dark valley, in passion and pain, to the exclusion of all others, for all the days of yer lives?"
Mena smiles as she listens to the ceremony her brother put together, chuckling softly at some parts, nodding along to other assessments he has made of the two to be married. And she watches it all with her full attention still, her hands folded neatly upon her lap.
Eleanor can't see any fault in what Phineas is saying. Content to listen and watch as the Duke speaks. Looking over at Caspian for his answer.
Stockton holds pipe smoke in his lungs as he waits for Caspian's answer. Liam still holds strong next to Katie, his hand clasped on hers, which is clasped to his arm. Those indecisively colored eyes shift toward the Deputy for his answer. No doubt in what his answer will be, but there was no way in the bloody abyss he was about to let Katie go a moment before he declared it out in front of all these people.
With Katherine at his side, Caspian is the epitome of ease. The color to her cheeks inspires a soft and fond smile her way, though he turns to Phineas as he begins to speak the words of ceremony. The comments regarding him has the Deputy smirking a bit, and he's just barely able to contain the chuckle that threatens to lift at the first of his comments. And then he goes on, and he looks near ... sheepish. Sheepish, yet with a hint of pride that's unwilling to be smothered. The Duke speaks the truth of marriage, who'd know it better than he? and Caspian listens intently, storing his advice and warnings and all the things that a new husband would be lucky to have heard. He stands tall now as the focus is set upon him, and as the question is asked, he looks over to Katherine, not bothering to try to smite his smile. "For all the days of my life, forever, I do."
"Damn right ya do." A swift nod from the duke comes with Caspian's avowal, and then his midnight eyes turn toward the female. "Katie gal, do you take this man Caspian ta be yer husband, ta have and ta hold, shelter and support, on the sunlit path or in the dark valley, in passion and pain, to the exclusion of all others, for all the days of yer lives?"
Katie can't seem to pull her eyes away from her soon to be husband even as the duke talks. Her cheeks pinking up once again as she is talked about though, getting a bit shy. There doesn't seem to be any worry though when Caspian is asked. She seemed to know the answer to that one anyway. " For always and forever, I do."
"Yup. Sorta figured," agrees Phineas with Katie's agreement. "And who gives this woman ta be wedded thus?" He squints pointedly at Liam, adding leadingly, "Do ya stand here in affirmation of this union?"
This is so totally romantic. Mae is engrossed, looking less bored than a nine year old might otherwise be when sitting through a wedding ceremony. It makes all the difference when she knows the people getting married as well as she does! She claps her hands together as they both say yes, then keeps them clasped to keep from clapping again til the end where clapping is acceptable. She hopes.
Liam nods curtly as Caspian responds as expected, mostly to himself, it might seem. As Phineas goes on for Katie's part, his hand remains on hers, patting softly to help bolster the woman, just hoping nobody goes into fainting spells around here. Turning his attention up to Phineas as he's questioned next, he speaks clearly without the flustered abashedness of the couple, but with no less emotion. "I, Liam Conway Forester, give Missy Kate to be wedded, and stand in affirmation of this union." Turning at that point, squeezing Katie's hand. Allowing her her distraction, the man leans down to give his little sister a kiss on the cheek, carefully lifting her hand off his arm, literally handing her off to Caspian with his blessing.
The duke gives a short dip of his head to Liam, satisfied. "Good," he says as the woman is officially handed over. "I'm not even asking if anyone has reason to stand in the way of this union, because if they do, they can kiss my posterior, I don't care unless the Emperor's walkin' up sayin' there's a problem. So." Phin looks between the two figures. "Have ya both the tokens that yer pledgin' yer love with?" He gestures in the turn of one hand an invitation for such items to be brought out.
Lin just grins. Just grins at her husband. Yes ladies and gentlemen she's a proud wife. Well proud of the couple to be wedded to but she's happy nevertheless and is positively beaming.
Caspian's eyes turn to Liam, watching him as he speaks with a look of thanks on his face. His head is dipped to the other man just as Katherine places herself fully at his side. He grins a beaming grin at her before nodding to the Duke. "Aye," he answers, eyes flitting to the crowd. Having happily given up his token to be kept safe by a dark-skinned and burly looking city guardsman, the guard now steps up, carefully holding a necklace that is given over to Caspian, along with a very broad grin before he steps back.
Liam returns that smile to Caspian and smirks at the Duke's denial to give any a chance to say otherwise, nodding in agreement. "Here, here." With his part done and over with, turns around and strides to his own wife's seat to watch the rest of the ceremony. Smiling to himself, his hand finds Lin's, squeezing as he leans to kiss her cheek.
Katie giving Liam's cheek a kiss in return as she is literally handed over to Caspian, finds her smile growing even more if it is possible. At not even giving people a chance to object, gains a giggle from the bride as well. A little nod given at the mention of tokens as a ring is slipped off her thumb with no resistance to it to be held in the palm of her hand.
Phineas passes his hand over both of the tokens, not quite touching them. "These are symbols of love and commitment. Now, we know that there's nothing perfect enough to express the wonder of love, but we wear the tokens to proudly declare before others, I am my love's, and she is mine." He nods toward Katie, "Or he is mine. In our hearts, we honor these symbols, and the love they bespeak. Let them be a reminder, all of your days."
Then the duke lowers his hand. "Caspian, repeat after me and then put this necklace upon her... 'With this symbol of my love, I thee wed. With all my wealth, I thee endow. With my body, I thee worship. With my heart, I thee entrust.'"
"You weren't worried that it'd fall off?" Caspian says in a whisper to Katie as the ring is slipped off of her thumb. He winks at her, his expression as playful as it is endearing, though he pays close attention to Phineas now, eyes turning to him. He nods before fully turning to Katie, expression soft yet words strong. "With this symbol of my love, I thee wed. With all my welath, I thee endow. With my body, I thee worship. With my heart, I thee entrust," he echoes, and the necklace is placed around her neck afterwards, fingertips grazing her jaw before he pulls back.
You gave Wedding Necklace to Katie.
Katie gives just a slight shake to her head at the whispered question. " Nope." Though as Caspian goes to slip the necklace around her throat and speaks the vows, she watches his eyes always, losing herself a bit in them. Eyes flutter a little as his fingers trail her jaw as well as they pull back. So happy she could just burst.
Phineas watches critically to make sure that the necklace gets clasped, looking as if he's going to offer advice on the process, but he bites his tongue. When it is completed, he gives a satisfied nod and looks to Katie. "Alright, Katie gal. Ya can put the ring on after ya repeat, 'With this symbol of my love, I thee wed. With all my wealth, I thee endow. With my body, I thee worship. With my heart, I thee entrust.'"
Mena shifts in her seat slightly as she continues to watch, sending a brief glance down to her lap where her hands rest before her gaze lifts again to the ceremony.
Citrine enters quietly, finding a place in the back where she could comfortably watch the ceremony.
Caspian smirks in answer to Katie, though keeps quiet now. Inquiries can be saved til after they're married, besides. And now it's his turn to stand and watch while Phineas speaks the vows to Katie, and a crooked grin is sent her way as he lightly moves his hand out for her. Wait... wrong hand. Is it? ... Right, left. He pulls it back, then offers the other (and correct) one. Smooth.
What a time to become shy! Swallowing hard and blushing once more, Katherine clears her throat just a little. Keeping her eyes more on Caspian's hands then anything " With this symbol of my love I thee wed." Glance up a little. " With all my wealth, I thee endow." This time she glances up, keeps her gaze there. " With my body I thee worship. With my heart, I thee entrust." Her voice isn't loud but it is loud enough though to be heard. Looking down once more to make sure to slip the ring on the correct finger, does just that. Her hands only shaking a little as she does.
Katie gave you Wedding Ring.
An approving nod comes from the duke. "Good, glad it fit and ya didn't drop it," he says in a low voice, more private, before he gets louder. "Alright, insomuch as these two, Caspian Fernwick and Katherine Tailor, have consented ta enter wedlock, and have witnessed it here with the exchange of tokens before all these people on this beautiful eve of the Spring Festival of Five Hundred and Six despite the rain which don't mean much but the promise of new life ta come, I pronounce ya man and wife. What love has bound t'gether, let no man set asunder. And now, by all means, Caspian, will ya kiss yer -wife-!"
And over where the musicians are, they all crash the wooden tankards together, slug back a last drink, and grab their instruments to begin a triumphant recessional for the wedding's conclusion.
Without a moment to spare, Liam gives out a shrill whistle and starts clapping as soon as Phineas makes that announcement.
Mena chuckles a bit, lifting her hands to applaud the newly wed couple as well.
Caspian's eyes roam her cheeks, nose, and then follow the movement of her lips as she speaks the same words that he did. His hand is held out for her, and he watches as the ring is slid onto his finger. A small, yet prominent weight that has his chest swelling bit as he inhales a slow breath. His fingers flex, and a grin is sent towards the Duke as he first comments. His fingers curl around Katie's gently quivering hand to give her a reassuring squeeze, but he doesn't let go after that. They're almost married. They're almost married. ... They're married! A wide grin spreads abruptly over his lips, and Katherine gets the whole of his attention. "Wife," he echoes before his free arm wraps around her, pulls her close, and he leans in to press his lips to hers in a happy, affectionate, and deep kiss to seal the deal. Husband and wife at last.
Raynn arrives from the main road. Raynn has arrived.
Citrine cheers and claps as the newlyweds kiss, beaming widely. She bounces in place, clearly moved by what she saw of the ceremony. "Aren't they lovely?!" She exclaims to no one and everyone in particular.
"Up!" says Godfrey as he rises to his feet. Hammy, Stockton, Orley, and O'Keefe follow suit in unison. Even in the din of celebratory cheers from the crowd, the music playing on stage, and the scintillating warmth the newlyweds are feeling in their treasured kiss, there is no mistaking the roar of the guards as they celebrate the marriage of Caspian and Katherine.
Ravelle glances down in her seat a moment, studying where her hands lace in her lap now. A trace smile lingers near her lips; though it's not entirely festive, there is warmth there.
Mae has been waiting for this! She's been quiet for too long, and once the music starts and people whistle and cheer, she hops out of her seat and cheeeers! "Woohaa!" ... It's the tournament all over again. She cheers alongside the City Guards, hopping on her feet.
Katie doesn’t seem all that shy after she is done speaking her vows, in fact she seems a little eager. shifting her weight from one foot to the other as he almost said it.. almost said it... He said it! No, not the wife.. the kiss! Sliding her free hand up and around her husband's neck she proceeds to kiss the daylights out of him, not caring who the heck is watching either while hoots and hollers and well wishes are called.
"Finally..." Ellie murmers, though only those very close to her might have any chance of hearing it over the applause and cheering. But she does join in with polite clapping.
Helena joins in with the clapping, a bit more sedate than some of the Fielders, no doubt, but she is smiling. That is, until she glances over at her sister who is looking at her lap. She tilts her head, trying to encourage Ravelle's gaze to draw upward and she gives her sister a smile.
Ravelle does join in in the applause when it breaks out around her, glancing up at the happy couple and clapping with enthusiasm. She does tip her head to her sister in a nod.
Mateo looks around as the clapping begins, both brows raised at the concept. After a moment, he looks to Ravelle, then back to the platform, joining in on the applause.
A breeze moves through the vicinity, catching flower petals in its tendrils and forming a slight funnel around Caspian and Katie. It is as if the wind itself has come to honor their union, blossoms dancing around them and getting caught in her hair in this moment of magic.
Eleanor puts her hands together and begins to make a applause between them. Her smile warm for Katie and Caspian when the wedding comes to a close and there is a kiss to seal it off.
Raynn seems a bit tipsy, but joins in applause also. After all, all the cool kids around him are doing it. His clapping lacks rhythm, though luckily it is drained out by the thunderous applause around him.
Phailin nudges Liam if she can catch his attention when that wind thing starts happening. She remembered something similar happening to her and Liam's spontaneous own affair.
Ravelle's sable gaze rises to Mateo's handsome features and she softly inquires, "What did you think of the ceremony?"
Phineas begins applauding as well, his heavy hands coming together in an enthusiastic expression. "I'm happy ta present ta y'all, Caspian and Katherine Fernwick, husband and wife!" he calls across the room, waving at them. He takes pause as the breeze moves through, so deftly bedecking the couple in flowers, and he glances up and about with a wistfulness to his smile. His gaze falls upon his littlest sister.
Liam grins at that note of the breeze, looking to Lin with a wink and smile, still too busy clapping to really do much else, other than a well marked hoot and holler. Reaching over, he wraps his arm around his woman too and plants a smart one right on her mouth.
Mateo raises a brow, "It is.... different." he says, giving a smile, "Enchanting." he glances down at the woman next to him, then back to the Empress, a brow raised, "I really should introduce myself to the Empress."
Caspian is in no hurry to end his first kiss as a husband, and he keeps himself happily lip-locked with her even as the breeze picks up, entrapping them in a colorful tornado of petals. But as he begins to grin against her, the kiss breaks as he pulls back half an inch. After squeezing her waist, he lets of her, though keeps his hand clasped in hers. He turns out to the crowd and lifts their joined hands in a symbol of unity. "Thank you! Now dance! Drink! And celebrate with us!" Eleanor takes in a breath and lets it out. Taking a look over at Mena she offers her a smile before her attention is back on the newly married couple. Lily pushes herself up onto her feet as the ceremony ends, smoothing out her dress and beginning to walk back towards the main village.
Ravelle states towards the prince as she finishes her applause for the newlyweds, "It'd be an honor to introduce you, Your Highness, unless you would feel better approaching her yourself?"
Woo! A kiss! Lin's not complaining and can even be heard laughing really quick for that affection or just the joy that seems to happen when a wedding takes place. Her free hand there's a thumbs up given towards Katie and Caspian. "Let's... get... PISSED!" demands Hammy before he plants two fingers between his lips and blows a shrill whistle out to the husband and wife. Veteran drinkers take this as a sign that the first person to very well be conked out at the reception could be the diminutive guardsman.
Mena smiles warmly as the breeze moves around the bride and groom, turning to make her way toward the reception part of the tented area, the knights following her closely.
A few other whoops go up, and the musicians start playing a merry reel for any who wish to take the dance floor. Servants in Fieldian livery haul a keg over from the food and drink tent, tap it, and start to hand out ale with alacrity.
Citrine finds herself in a whorl of people, the movement of the crowd putting her in the middle of it. A handsome face with a baritone to match catches her attention - she can't help it, romance is in the air, and she grins up at him just as he mentions something about meeting the Empress. As a woman she vaguely recognizes responds, she tilts her head to the side, watching the exchange curiously. His Highness? Who was this person?
Katie is never going to stop smiling. Nope. At least not today and not likely tomorrow either. Possibly not all week to come. Giggling as Caspian invites everyone to join in the celebration, she uses her free hand to blow a kiss to the wind that has appeared to play with the petals in thanks. Only then does she yell out. "Cake and Ale for everyone!"
Nick passes his duty off to another knight. He said he'd come to the wedding. He didn't ever promise to stay for the festivity. Once that exchange is done he is off with a small nod towards Caspian, highly doubting the married man would even see him.
Mateo smiles softly toward Ravelle, "An introduction would be in order." he says, nodding once and motioning with his hand as he stands, "Lead the way, my fair lady." ... his accent is strong, Vandalusian in origin, with a touch of Tyrean hints in his speech.
There's no stopping Mae now. The serious stuff is over, right? So Mae bolts out of her seat and takes a few leaping steps onto the platform to wrap her arms around Katie's dress in a tight hug. "You're married, Katie!"
Liam rights his wife after that smooch and just ends up clapping again. There's a look passed over the crowd, taking in all the happy faces, the guards and such. He does attach his attention to Mena a few lingering moments as she moves on to the reception area. Quieting with a note of respect, he smiles back to Lin once more with some meaningful look of appreciation to his wife. "Cake, dancing, music. Sounds like a party. Are you up for a party, Lin?" Yes, a teasing, rhetorical question. Fielder /not/ up for a party? Psht
On the platform, Duke Phineas says, "Congratulations, both of ya. Don't fuck up now. When they're under attack, donkeys put their heads out and kick the shit out of each other. Horses all put their heads t'gether and kick the shit out of what's attackin' them. Be horses, all yer lives. And that's my last advice. Go celebrate!"
Phineas gives some quiet last advice to the newlyweds, then heads over to the important stuff, the ale. ALE! Duke Phineas steps off of The platform.
Phailin just stares at Liam when he asks her that. "You have got to be kidding me? I would not miss this for the world." Her hand a little heavy on Liam's arm as she attempts to right herself also. "Time's a wasting after all."
Ravelle squeezes her sister's hand and then smoothly ascends to her feet, though not without granting her kin and Ellie a warm smile. "Pardon us, please." She then leads the foreign prince over towards the Empress. "Your Majesty," she greets with summer's radiance, sinking into a deep sweeping curtsy for her. "May I present to you His Highness, Prince Mateo de la Vega of Vandalusia."
Aileana just starts applauding happily for the couple, whistling a couple of times before she calls out, "Let's party!" She does waggle her brows at her spouse as she stands up, "Excellent job, love."
CAKE! Caspian grins at the word and brings Katie's hands to his lips to kiss at her knuckles. "I saw that that cake. You're lucky you brought it here. I would've eaten it all myself.." He doesn't miss Phineas' words though, and he grins at the man. "Aye, always Your Grace!" he calls in his wake. He'll thank him a thousand times after this. He didn't miss Kreshnik's quiet exit either, looking glad that he did bother to come.
Mena turns her attention to the approaching duo of Ravelle and Mateo, smiling in a welcoming manner, though the announcement of the man's title does make her eyebrows quirk faintly. "I see. It is an honor to meet you, Highness," she says, holding her hand out to the man, palm down. "I had not been made aware of your arrival."
Helena grins up at her sister as Ravelle departs with the prince and then gets up from her seat herself. She doesn't seem intent on any direction in particular, just happy to mingle a bit and get an eyeful of a Fielder celebration.
Katie giggles brightly having to let go of her husband's hand, after he kisses her's of course, so she can wrap Mae up in a hug. "Yes, yes I am! Now we can have cake and dance. It's time to have fun Mae my dear." Kissing the top of her head as well. A wave is given to the Duke as he goes after the ale.
Ellie offers a smile back to Ravelle in turn before getting up from her seat and trying to make her way over towards where the cake is. Mmm. Pastry.
Citrine does her best impression of someone being subtle as Ravelle introduces the prince - a prince, how most definitely fancy and curious - to the Empress, following along a few steps behind to quietly watch and listen. If she were a cat, this would be something close to death, all this curiosity, but as it was she was safe. Unless anyone objected to her presence.
Mateo bows to the Empress, his knee hitting the ground, "At your service, highness." he says, then rises, "I apologize. I have only recently arrived, and checked in at the embassy. I was informed that you would be contacted of my arrival, but I had not heard anything further." he straitens his stance, "It is truly an honor to meet you. I have gifts for you and the emperor."
Godfrey starts to make his way through the crowd to the stage, leaving the guards to get some of the grub and ale. Hammy, in particular, seems to be leading that search party. He snaps a nod to the Duke and Duchess before rumbling, "Your Grace...s." Does it make sense? Well, it's a party, maybe he can slide this time.
Mae mmhmms! Mae is ready for some fun. She squeezes Katie tightly and leans up to kiss her cheek (if she bends down, cuz there's no way she'll reach even on her tippy toes). And Caspian is given a hug too. "You're married too!' Now what was all that about cake? Flashing a grin, she skitters off again, searching for cake.
Something about Godfrey tacking on that 's' draws Aileana's attention to him so very quickly and he gets a huge smile for it, "Good evening, Sheriff. How are you?"
Ravelle rises from her curtsy and offers the Empress a respectful nod as she withdraws some, allowing the two higher-ranking figures to speak at length. Her attention strays towards the ravishing Citrine and her lips curve in welcome though she does not interrupt the Empress and Prince to offer the introduction just yet.
Corsair arrives from the southern pasture lands. Corsair has arrived.
Mena smiles and inclines her head to Mateo, inviting the man to rise with a graceful movement of her hand. "Thank you for your generosity, Highness. We look forward to receiving them. Perhaps we might set up an appointment some time this week to meet, yes?"
Liam chuckles to Lin's reply and offers his wife an arm. Wanna see soemthing funny? A gimp helping a pregnant Lady up. Though, the two seemed to have found a nice even way to do such activities (among others apparently judging by the very pregnant woman). He watches all those adoring fans of the couple mill about, giving congratulations and all, grinning. "So? Where to?"
Phineas gives a wink to Aileana. "Thanks. I practiced all day," he tells her, reaching for her hand. Then Godfrey gets a grin. "Well now, Sheriff, good ta see ya. Happy evenin', really."
Caspian looks amused. Amused and joyful. Mae's hug is returned, and once she runs off again, his hand is right back in Katie's. He leans over to his new wife and kisses her cheek, nose gently rubbing against the side of her neck in a nuzzle. "Come, let's dance," he says, already pulling her off of the platform, the beat of the upbeat music too difficult to resist.
Mateo gives a bright dimpled smile to the Empress, nodding his head, "That would be most excellent. There is much to be discussed." he says, without hinting of his agenda any further. "You have such a wonderful kingdom, delightful people, I must say." he says, his gaze stolen for a moment, before returning to the Empress.
Lin does take the arm that is offered to her. Yep the pregnant woman and the gimp have a way of working things out it seems. Somehow. It fits. "Oh cake. Let's get cake." She doesn't say what she really wants, that being ale.
"I'm down one Deputy," says Godfrey with a grin. "You know how it is with guards. Once they get married, they get soft. No good t'me anymore." Clearly the man is joking, which becomes all the more evident as the newlyweds pass by. "The Fernwicks," he says, clapping the young man's shoulder.
Eleanor finally rises from her seat. Just letting herself be awashed in the ceremony and the after effects. Giving a curtsey to Mena in not wanting to disrupt what she has going on but this one looks like she'll retreat soon. Liam laughs heartily and nods "Cake it is, love." letting the others go along their business, Liam takes his wife over to where the cake is being partitioned out and passed around. Wherever they venture to, Liam does keep one eye on Katie and Caspian, stealing glances this way and that on occasion.
"Thank you," Mena says with another tip of her head to Mateo. "I hope that you do enjoy the time you spend upon our shores, Highness, and I do look forward to our discussion. I hope you will enjoy the rest of the festival. You have arrived at a very joyous time for us here upon Gateway."
Katie laughs and nods as she is pulled along towards the dance floor. " When have I ever said no to dancing?!" Though as Godfrey is passed, she slows enough to peck a kiss to his cheek. "I won't let him go soft on ya Sheriff." A wink given to the man as well. "Promise."
Ravelle steps closer to Citrine to murmur something softly to her. "I figured we can talk to Katie and Caspian when they are not so busy." Lin explains to Liam as she is led to the treat. "You know we never had wedding cake. Did we have one at our reception? I can't remember." Shaking her head. Not to bothered by it at all.
Citrine returns Ravelle's smile warmly, giving a little wave from the waist to her, mostly just a waggle of slender fingers. Violet eyes crinkle at the corners when she smiles, and she leans closer to the other woman as she whispers, nodding and murmuring a reply softly.
Mateo smiles softly, "Perfect timing then!" he nods once, then motions faintly with his hand, "It is a pleasure to meet you, Highness, but do not let me keep you from the festivities. We shall meet later this week, if I am worthy enough to be in your presence." he chuckles softly.
"I heard that," retorts Caspian to Godfrey, flashing the man a grin that's followed by a snort. "Being /soft/ has never been a problem for me.." he glances to Katie as she speaks, and a devious smirk curves his lips. "Especially in present company." He winks at her, looking pleased by her and Godfrey's interaction. "Thanks for comin', Sheriff," says the Deputy. "Would've taken it personally if you didn't," said in jest. "Now, where's your woman? It's time to dance!" And he pulls Katie to do just so, grinning to Phailin and Liam.
Ravelle inclines her head at Citrine's soft words, murmuring, "Thank you so much, my lady." She then turns her attention back to the Prince and the Empress, waiting for their discourse to conclude.
There's a soft look given by Eleanor to the crowd in general and than the princess is gone with her knights in tow.
Corsair makes her way over to the crowd of people celebrating with a quick step, raising her hand to add to Godfrey's toast. "The Fernwicks," she calls back with a swift grin of her own.
Katie blinks and looks at Caspian and turns bright scarlet at that. So very red. A bit shocked, dumbfounded... she just waves over to Lin and Liam by the cake.
"Indeed," Mena answers Mateo with a succinct nod. "I shall have my Chamberlain make the appointment and inform you when it shall be. Do have a wonderful night, Highness." With that, she inclines her head once more, looking at the others nearby as well, as if to excuse herself, then turns and walks in the direction of the tent's end. Though, as she passes the dance floor, she does lift a hand to wave toward the newlyweds. "Congratulations to you! Enjoy your night!"
Godfrey accepts the jest and the kiss on the cheek graciously, still trying to maintain poise in front of the Duke and Duchess. But it is a party, so there is little else to do but to have a moment of joy. "If you both will excuse me?" he asks to both Phineas and Aileana.
Aileana squeezes Phineas's hands and just smiles towards Godfrey, "Of course. So long as you excuse us if we get ourselves into trouble in public later."
Liam leads on to that tasty yumness. C'mon. Liam isn't about to turn down /food/! Psht. So with a laugh at what Caspian said, passing Katie a meaningful look that clearly seems to say 'I'm being good!' as he winks and drops a wave to the pair, almost like a lazy salute. Patting Lin's hand, he nods "Yep, later on. Not like we don't see Missy Kate in time on our own. this is their night to bask in it." Looking at that cake, taking one of those cut pieces and passing to Lin. "I..heh, well by damn I don't remember."
Mateo smiles as the Empress walks away, before turning back to Ravelle. He shrugs, "That went well." he says to her as if she were a long time acquaintance, very non-chalantly. He then smiles to Citrine, "Good evening." he says, who seems to be standing with Ravelle, "Where to now?" he asks of Ravelle.
Duke Phineas gives a nod toward Godfrey. He mutters to Duchess Aileana, "... have... good... Sheriff," he tells the man, not quite smirking. "I'm goin' ta head back, Ana. If ya want ta come now or later, it's good. A bit of work to finish up, then I can have fun."
Ravelle curtsies deeply as the Empress moves off before rising and stepping closer to Mateo. "Your Highness, may I present Lady Citrine Montaigu, a lovely young woman from the isle of Mists. If you have any questions about our arcanic roots, she can certainly address them." Her lips curve. "She has kindly offered to escort you around the wedding festivities as I must respectfully withdraw to attend my auction as it is the last evening for it." She executes another stately curtsy, adding, "It was a beautiful honor to meet you, and I hope that we can speak again soon, Highness."
Lin does give a wave to Katie and Caspian as she and Liam pass them. She says towards the man, "I wonder if there will be a food fight? You know if Katie and Caspian will mash each other's faces with cake." She thinks this is so funny and is heard to be laughing. Breaking a piece off she offers it to Liam. Maybe that's her way of saying thanks for getting her cake.
Caspian just grins at the blushing bride, though nothing stops him from pulling her out onto the hay for a dance! The upbeat song has him going with little hesitation. With a hand in hers and the other on her waist, the groom dances to the brisk pace, guiding her about the floor, kicking up hay as he spins and twirls her.
Aileana nods to Phineas, "I'll come with you. I'm getting to that stage of pregnancy where I'm just always tired."
Mateo hides his dissapointment well, as he smiles to Ravelle, offering a slight bow, "Until we meet again." he says softly, before turning his attention to
Citrine, "Shall we?" he asks, offering her his arm, "Lady... Citrine, is it?" Katie makes a odd little bounce like curtsey as to the Empress as she is pulled along. " Evening your Majesty, thank you for coming!" Called out. Then there isn't enough air left for yelling as she is spung and twirled about, keeping her own this night too. One hand in his and one around his shoulders.
Helena catches part of what her sister says and a question rises in her eyes. She steps in Ravelle's direction, looking like she's going to follow her sister to the other tent.
Citrine curtsies to Mateo, smiling up at the taller man. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Your Highness." She takes his arm, lifting her free hand to wave to Ravelle. "Good luck with your auction, Lady Soranus." Turning to Mateo, she nods. "I'm not a Lady, technically.. that's my mother. So just Citrine is fine. What shall I call you?"
Ravelle rises from that honoring curtsy, bestowing a grateful smile on Citrine before glancing up at Mateo. "Well met and enjoy the wedding, Your Highness." She then politely withdraws from the couple and turns to head back to the auction, pausing only long enough to wait for her sister when she sees her approaching and then the two Soranus sisters are off.
Mae has nabbed herself a piece of cake, chomping down on it happily. But she's careful not to get any on her dress. For now anyway. But there's dancing to be had! So, with one piece in her hand she heads on out there too, not minding
Liam leans down enough to carefully pick that piece of cake from Lin's fingers, lipping at her fingertips as he catches one between his lips and nibbles on it, his eyes shining with mischief as he watches his wife. Straightening as if nothing happened, he shrugs "I'm not sure. Heh, I could see it, without a doubt with those two eh? But then again, I can see Kate doing any number of things, including fainting mid ceremony." no wonder he was gripping her hand earlier.
Phineas tugs his wife close and winks at her. "Sure thing, m'love." He drains half of his tankard. "All ya'll, have a good night, blessings ta the couple!" He raises the tankard their way, downs another swallow, and sets it aside to head off with his wife. While most seem to view this as a social occasion, Raynn seems to be fixated on the food. That and the fact that he is all giggly from the sugar high, compounded with the intoxication, is causing interesting behavior on the lordling's part, the latest of which is him "hiding" behind a bush spying on... someone? Who knows what's going on in that head of his.
Mateo ponders a moment at Citrine's question, then gives a faint shrug, "It does not matter... you can call me whatever you like... cabrone ... goat ... meathead ... or even, hey you." he teases, "Lead the way to the alcohol." he demands.
Lin just smiles a bit wider or is that smile just a bit saucier? She's quite aware of what her husband is doing after all. Not minding it a bit. Once he's taken his piece she takes a few minutes to lick off her fingers for any remains that might have been left before she helps herself to another piece and again another bite offered to him as she is in conversation with him. "Well, it was good for you to be there. To be her support. I am sure she appreciated it. You did look rather handsome up there after all. I couldn't have been prouder."
Yup, now's not the time for talking. Caspian is all grins as he dances with his wife, pausing to twirl her, then he's off again, dancing around at a brisk and hopping pace. A change in the beat, and hs pauses, placing his hands on her hips to lift her and turn her about, head tipped up to her. "Madam Fernwick. Lady Fernwick. I love you, and I will forever. Til I die, and after I still will." Er, now's not the time for /talking/
Ellie, having obtained a piece of cake, just stands there quietly munching on it and watching the rest of the crowd. Clearly, she thinks this is one of the best parts of the whole thing.
With the dismissal of the Duke and Duchess and his lack of uniform, it is now time for Godfrey to find the guards that he had left behind and indulge in the free food and drink. He begins to make his way through the crowd, eagerly snatching the first unclaimed tankard he can and taking a pull from its contents. The first drink of many, to be sure.
"Booze!" Citrine cries happily, guiding Mateo towards the table where the cake and booze lie. She fills a cup for him first, offering it to him, then gets one for herself. "Shall we also have cake? It looks quite delicious." Citrine raises an eyebrow as she notices a young man dart behind the bush, and glances at the ale in her hand. Man, that must be /really/ strong stuff.
Corsair weaves her way through the crowd to meet Godfrey by the drinks, reaching to snag herself a tankard as well. "Sheriff," she greets the man with an easy smile. "Glad to see we managed to pull a few people together for the wedding. Things seemed all right in the city before the shift change," she adds, taking a swallow of her drink.
Mae twirls her skirts as she spins around, enjoying the dance. But that cake that she had has somehow disappeared! Now way she ate it /that/ fast. Hmmmmm. Well, she can fix that. She heads on back to the cake table. "Hi," she greets to Ellie as she claims another piece.
The Vandalusian Royal Guards that seem to follow Mateo begin interrogating the young man that is hiding in the bush. Mateo doesn't seem to notice, as he takes the drink that is handed to him, taking a quick drink. He allows the taste to rest on his tongue for a moment, before taking another drink. "No cake for me. I had a rather large dinner." he comments.
Liam chuckles low in his throat, licking his lips some as he looks for a good drink or seven, snarring a mug of ale and searching for something Lin can drink. He picks one up, sip, yep, this tastes like juice, offering that to Lin as he deftly takes that offering. "Mm, I wouldn't have said no to that in a million years. Roos sure as hell isn't going to get married and the brat would have to find someone that could stand him for five minutes to get hitched." he smirked and looked out to Katie and Caspian as he talked with his wife. "Nah. This is the closest I'll get to watching any of mine married off." Smiling down to Lin "Feels pretty good."
Katie isn't talking now. Nope. She is giggling lots though as she continues to be danced along the floor until it is up in the air she goes, both arms encircling her husband's neck. " Aye...." she grins warmly down at him. "Master Fernwick... In this life and the next or whatever may come after this life is over. I'll always try to find you if you promise to always try to find me. I love you too."
"Hello." Ellie greets Mae cheerfully, nearly done with her first piece of cake. Mmm. Cake.
It's inevitable. It truly is. When Corsair approaches him, the other guards seem to be coming in tow. With a mug in each hand is Hammy, followed by Orley who munches away at a turkey leg. Stockton and O'Keefe are both drinking cider, rather than the ale it would seem. But the Sheriff addresses the guardswoman first. "Figured the shift change would go without a hitch," he tells her. "This wedding's bigger'n a lot of events we've done security detail for. Might want to have a little fun yourself. That is, unless you're too busy training for your next fight." This causes a lot of good-natured goading from the rest of the guardsmen.
Hammy's goading manifests into, "CORSAIRwillyoudancewit'me!?"
Caspian lowers Katie down and kisses her lips. "I will be there, wherever it is after this life, waiting for you faithfully." He continues to grin as he leans in to whisper to her ear. "We're married!" in soft undertones. Her earlobe is kissed before he moves back. "Now, I've waited weeks for this cake of yours... you won't keep me waiting much longer, will you?" he asks with a wink just before he lifts a hand to Corsair, hailing her not long after .. Hammy.
Lin's hands are full now. A mug of juice and cake. Life can't get any sweeter than this. Listening as Liam speaks. Looking back over at Katie and Caspian as they dance. Laughing some she asks Liam, "Were we ever that sugary?" Her tone is light and it is met in good favor, a tease of the way her friends love for each other shines. Nothing wrong in that. "Well you never know, Weath might find someone eventually." But well she's kind of doubtful of that though she doesn't voice it, nodding at the talk of Drusilla. Sipping her juice now once she can catch her breath.
"Who're you?" Mae asks as she helps herself to her second helping of cake. Hey, it's every man and child for himself! Or herself, in this case. "Do y'know Deputy Caspian or Katie? Their wedded, y'know. This is thier cake."
"You say it like I don't train anyhow," Corsair smirks to Godfrey, taking a swallow from her mug. "But no, nothing special needed, and I could use a brea-" And then Hammy's stammering on, and the guardswoman at least makes an effort not to embarass him. "Sure, Hammy," she says easily, not quite hiding the amusement in her features. "Next song, soon's I finish my ale." The ale, which she raises in a salute to Caspian at his wave.
Citrine takes a sip of the ale, nodding to Mateo as he vetos the cake. "What next, then? Would you like to dance?" The joy in area is contagious, and she can't help but grin at everyone and everything, bouncing lightly on the balls of her feet.
"I'm Ellie Clapton." Ellie replies before shrugging, "And, oh, I know Katie. She's nice. And, oh, I've sort of met the Deputy before..." A glance is given over to where the newlywed couple is before she looks back at Mae.
Mateo glances to the dance floor, "Sure. I can dance." he says in his heavy accent, his voice baritone. He offers his hand, motioning to the dance floor with his other, a dimpled smile breaking the smoothness of his cheeks.
Did Katherine just.. smack Caspian on his backside? Yes, yes she did! Granted lightly though. " Go get your cake then Husband. I made that great giant thing according to your taste buds after all. I'll be hurt if you don’t have a piece. Then in a very adult manner.. she sticks her tongue out at her adopted brother and his wife with a wink as well. Maybe she heard that. Then blows the pair a kiss.
"Really?" Mae seems to be happy to hear that, and she smiles a bright smile to Ellie. "Nice to meetcha, Ellie Clapton. Katie's nice 'n Caspian's nice too. And this is good cake," she says, munching happily. "Katie made it. Did ya come to dance?"
Stockton discreetly accepts a couple coins from Orley as soon as Corsair consents to a dance with the half-cut Hammy. Godfrey takes another pull from his ale as he says, "I don't know if I can put my finger on it, Corsair, but training seems like somethin' you don't need to do given what you do in the ring. You an' Caspian both made us look good out there. Now I just need you to win it all."
Liam passes a glance to the couple and smiles, a little whistfully maybe as he looks to Lin again. "Worse, I think. Don't make me take you back to the swan to remind you, now." reaching over to touch that hanging ship on Lin's wedding necklace. To the note on his brother, he just scoffs and chuckles in reply, not even bothering to comment on it as he looks back toward Katie. Straightening up to his full height, he scoffed again, indignantly to that playful gesture.
Citrine smiles up at Mateo, taking his hand and walking onto the dance floor with him. "So, what brings you to Gateway, Your Highness?" She asks as she moves along to the lively music, her violet eyes lingering on his dark ones.
Lin just smiles at Liam when he reminds her of the swan and the way he touches her own wedding necklace. Having to laugh when Katie sticks her tongue out at the both of them she tells the man she's with, "Uh oh. Guess she heard me." Taking in a breath and letting it out. Its a little harder to breath right now since everything is squished for her so she takes short little breaths often. She continues sharing her cake with Liam until its done. Putting the plate where it goes so now her hands can just hold onto her mug of juice staring down at it with a wistful look. Oh yeah the florist badly wants ale.
"The cake is very good, yes. Oh, I came because I've never been and, well, it sounded kind of interesting. But, oh, I wish it wasn't /raining/. That's not so very nice." Ellie shrugs in response to Mae.
Hey ... was he just smacked on the backside? Caspian blinks then grins deviously as he leans in to murmur something to her quietly. He leans back then, eyes still glittering with mirth. "Then I'll be sure to eat two pieces," he vows to Katie. Hey, cake is no joke! He traipses off now, leaving her side momentarily to get himself a hearty piece of wedding cake.
"I absolutely intend to win, Sheriff," Corsair laughs to Godfrey, grin flashing. "You pay me well, but not so well the purse doesn't tempt me. And the prizes are certainly interesting. Still not a given, though," she cautions, sipping. "From what I've seen, this Cain fellow's not half bad. Not a knight, maybe, but he's got a few years on the deputy. And the explorer's a wildcard."
Mateo moves out to the dance floor with Citrine. Upon arriving at the designated location, he takes her hand and pulls her rather close, his free hand wrapping around her waist. Must be how they dance in Vandalusia. He ponders at her words as he moves gracefully around the dance floor, "Diplomacy." he says simply.
"Oh yes," says Mae with a little pout as she looks out at the rainy day. "Buuut rain's not so bad. The ... uh ... mmm .. Duke said it means life. Or brings life ... or somethin'. But y'know what? Maybe that means we'll all play in the mud!" That sounds fun, though with a look to the nice dresses and clothes everyone's wearing, she begins to doubt herself. "I ain't never been to a weddin' neither, til now."
"It's just kind of cold for rain." Ellie shrugs, "Otherwise, oh, well, it is nice that it makes things grow..." She glances down at herself for a moment before shaking her head at Mae and saying somewhat dubiously, "Oh, well... I don't think anyone would much like... mud... and all..."
Katie walks over towards Lin and Liam while someone satisfies his sweet tooth. As she gets close it is clear each of them is gonna end up gettin hugged. Ayup. Lin's is a gentle light one though since she is expecting while Liam's however is a great big bear hug. " Thank you both so much for coming. It means the world to me that you two are here."
Citrine smiles up at Mateo as she's drawn close, resting her head against his chest where she could hear his heart beating, feet moving easily as she danced. "Do you like Gateway so far? Did you only just arrive? What a time to arrive, during the festival. You have excellent timing." She leans her head back to grin up at him.
Mateo raises a brow as she rests her head against his chest... "Impeccible timing." he suggests, as he moves slowly and gracefully around the dance floor, "The culture here is... quite interesting." he says, as he glances toward the newly weds, then back.
Caspian passes by Ellie and Mae as he gets his cake piece, and the youngest girl is smirked and poked out playfully. "Don't eat too much, eh?" he advises, eyes flitting to Ellie. If he recognizes her, it doesn't register in his eyes, but they do remain friendly, finding it hard to be sour at anything today. He heads back to Katie now as he hugs Liam and Phailin, "Aye, thank you both," he chimes in as he breaks off a piece of cake. "Katherine?"
Liam chuckles as Katie wanders back over and gives out hugs. The bear hug is returned fully, lifting the bride off the ground a little bit. "As if I'd miss this! A nest of wasps couldn't keep me away, Missy. Had to have someone hand you off afterall, mm?" Turning some as Caspian comes by, he inclines his head "There's the man of the hour. Caspian." Extending his hand out. "I trust you're getting enough death threats that I don't need to throw mine in there." Grinning rakishly at that.
Mae can sense that doubt in Ellie's voice, which only confirms that there will be no mud fight tonight. She smiles to Caspian and takes another bite of here cake. "I won't!" she says with a full mouth. So much for manners.
Lin does accept the hug that is given by Katie. Putting her mug down to accept it. When Caspian approaches she's laughing again. Especiall because the man has cake with him. Who knows what will happen next! Shaking her head as she hears Liam. Amusement flickering.
"Is it very different from yours?" Citrine queries, raising an eyebrow of her own. "I admit, I don't know much about Vandalusia." The song changes, and she shifts slightly, moving with her partner. "What's it like there?" It seems she is full of questions.
A chorus of protests comes from the guards. Everything from "C'mon!" to "Are you shitting me" seems to be the gamut that is available to both Sheriff and guardswoman. "Settle you animals," says Godfrey as he raises his free hand. "We could talk about something that doesn't involve the tournament so that she can stop thinkin' about it at least for a night. How does that sound?"
Katie eyes that piece of cake, wondering if he is gonna be nice or naughty with it. She's all prettied up today after all. Stepping a little closer, goes to take the piece of cake from his fingers gently.
Mateo changes his rhythm when the music changes, responding to her question, "Vandalusia is a fairly large island to the west of Gateway... it is hot and humid in the summer, and mild in the winter. Doesn't rain very much at all." Lowering her voice once Caspian departs, Ellie comments to Mae, "I think this is probably the best part, the cake. What do you think?"
The drunken Raynn jumps out from behind a pillar and rushes towards Liam and Lin with a very very crude spear made of a stick and a dull stone in one hand and dying branch, which one can only assume is some kind of makeshift sword, in the other. "For Spa---teeha!" Raynn yells at the top of his lungs as he is about to reach the Fielders and... dramatically trips.
"Or," Corsair smirks, draining the last of her drink, "I could give Hammy his dance. Since he had the balls to ask," she winks to the rest, setting her mug down and moving toward the guard. "I'm a little short on ball gowns," she notes wryly, glancing down at her uniform, "But I think I can manage."
Caspian was going to be ... nice! At least now that Liam has his attention. He's about to lift that piece of cake to plop it into his mouth, but it's plucked out of his hands! "You're a thief..." he accuses with a smirk to her, and he makes a face, crossing his eyes and wrinkling his nose. It's all straightened out by the time he looks back to Liam and takes his hand to pump it heartily. "Threats? Now who'd dare threaten the Deputy, eh?" he asks with a smirk just before his eyes glance to Raynn. A brow arches.
Saxon arrives from the main road. Saxon has arrived.
"Hold this," Hammy says to O'Keefe and Orley both, offering them his mugs before taking Corsair's hand in his own. The sight of the smaller guard handing off his ale to dance with Corsair causes Godfrey to bark a bit of laughter. The mirth sounds a little unnatural coming from him, it would seem. Hammy looks up at Corsair with a grin before he says, "Don't worry, I'm real good at this!"
Citrine nods. "Do you like it ther - " Another question is on her lips before Raynn makes his dramatic entrance, which catches her attention. She turns her head to stare, raising both eyebrows and stopping dancing for a moment.
"Uh huh," answers Mae after swallowing hugely. "This'n the dancin'. Y'know what? I can play a lute. I should'a brought it!" She frowns and snaps her fingers. "Next weddin' I go to, I'ma play a song. Will ya listen?"
Katie just bats her big sky blue eyes at her husband while blushing a nice rosy shade. " Sorry... I thought you were offering it." Though Raynn does get a curious look. " I think he's had enough to drink." if the first thing out of her mouth.
As Raynn comes charging, the Vandalusian guards step forward, in front of Mateo and Citrine, with their swords drawn, ready to stay off any potential attack. Mateo raises a brow as Raynn stumbles, peering around the guards at the scene. He remains silent.
Liam grips Caspian's hand firmly and returns the enthusiasm full forced with a grin and chuckle. "Aside me? Apparently nobody." He eyes Katie and winks. "Ya hear him now, Kate. Threatening a Deputy for you. Beat the man with my crutch if I ha--WHOA!" Raynn coming out of left field, as he jumps out with that make shift spear, a hand goes to guide Lin behind him. Eyes keen on the man. Dead branch. Dull rock. Okay...that grim line which once was a smile lessens. "Whoa man, whoa." he reaches out, trying to catch the stumbling man.
"Oh! I should..." Something about Mae's words reminds Ellie of something, but she doesn't seem to continue that thought. "Oh, sure, I'd listen." she nods. "But it'd be nice if, oh, they skipped the first part and went straight to this part. The first part is awfully boring."
Raynn manages not to go down completely, and shakes his head as he stumbles. "Oh, thanks man. Here, I made you a ceremonial sword so we can do a ceremonial dual!" He jumps up and down. "You know there can't be a wedding without a ceremonial duall! I mean, it's not like with live in Landry or Umbrasville or Ostyriana or something like, right? *hic*" Raynn smiles, oblivious to the fact he is not the center of attention of most of the guests and all of the guards.
Corsair's smile is wry as she steps in with Hammy, a subtle change to her posture settling a different sort of grace and self-possession about her shoulders. "Don't worry," she echoes him with a laugh. "I've done this a time or two myself." And, once the pair makes it to the floor, it's evident that she has. As inappropriate as armor and gear may be for the occasion, she dances with a grace and precision that speak of an appreciable amount of training and experience. This guard is too off duty to deal with drunks.
Caspian keeps an eye on Raynn, recognizing him vaguely. "Likely high..." he muses to Liam as he releases his hand, watching as the woodworker helps the ... assassin? He coughs a bit and curls an arm around Katherine's waist, leaning in to try to steal a bite of that cake. Gnar! Listening, he can't help but snicker as Raynn speaks his piece, and he glances to Liam. "Well there you go. A ...ceremonial duel. Congratulations!" said with an obvious note of teasing.
Slipping through the throng of people that attend the wedding dance, Saxon quietly makes her way across to where Godfrey has placed himself, acknowledging people she recognized with a nod or wave on hand along the way. "How'd it go?" she asks, tucking an arm through the crook of the Sheriff's, watching with no small smile as Hammy escorted Corsair towards the dance, or was that the other way around?
Citrine shakes her head, turning her attention back to Mateo. "Well, apparently the ale is good. It looks like that fellow has had quite a bit of it." She chuckles softly, shaking her head. "Anyway, where were we?"
Mateo steps back toward Citrine, "I really must be getting back to the embassy. I appreciate the dance, and I hope we can meet again." he says softly, reaching the kiss the knuckles on her hand, before releasing it.
Mae thinks about that for a long while but then shakes her head as she comes to her conclusion. "But then, it wouldn' be a weddin'," she complains, her lip pouting out a bit. "'n Katie wouldn' be married. They /got/ to have that first part! I ain't think it was borin'. I liked it. M'gonna get married too."
Katie finds a nice warm comfy spot and wriggles a bit happily against Caspian's side. Happy to share the cake as well, there is not need to steal it, she'll even feed it to him! Though something besides the drunk catches her attention. " Who you gonna marry Miss Mae?" Called over as she looks at the little girl.
Citrine smiles up at Mateo, nodding. "Yes, I hope so, too. Thank you for the dance. It was indeed a pleasure to meet you. Perhaps before you leave, you can stop by the auction tent and bid on me." She grinned.
"He's completely done," says Stockton, thinking aloud as he spies Raynn through the shifting bodies of celebration. Meanwhile, Hammy is simply loving the smooth moves that Corsair has to offer. The little guy may be short on height and alcohol tolerance, but he makes up for it with a masterful control of his arms and legs. He beams up at Corsair as she demonstrates her remarkable dancing abilities, and offers the same in kind. Even with the drink in his system he handles himself quite well.
Godfrey turns his head to look at the woman that had addressed him while possessing his arm. When the clues tie together to form Saxon's identity, he offers her a broad smile. "It's not often the people throw an occasion this large to celebrate the happiness of other people. But here it is, an' I like it."
Mateo raises a brow, "Perhaps I shall." he says with a grin. He then gives a slight bowm and a wink, before heading off...
Ellie shrugs, "I don't know, I mean, well, maybe it'd be a different kind of wedding? Anyway, well, I'm not getting married."
Liam slides a sidelong look Caspian's way with a brief nod of his head and grunt in the affirmative as he listens to Raynn mumble on. Wariness moves over to amusement eventually, and a deep throated chuckle at the end. He nods to the groom again, looking impressed, if just for jest. "Well look at that." He looks to the ceremonial weapon he's given and takes it, puffing up and holding it against his chest in a clenched fist. "For the honor of Mister and Mistress Fernwick, I accept this lofty duty!" He looks to the Drunk...high...well the intoxicated Raynn as the Guardian Gimp of the Fields nods his head once, firmly. "Lord Brewer's Crossing!"
Citrine walks over to the table with the cake, helping herself to a slice in time to overhear Mae and Ellie talking about marriage.
Mae beams at Katie. "Umm I dunno! I jus' know I'm gettin' married so I can look real pretty like you 'n have flowers and a real nice cake an' .. dancin'! But it /ain't/ gonna be to that /stupid/ boy that Cari made me meet. He was dumb 'n he was mean." She pulls a face, but then blinks at Ellie. "You ain't? How come?"
Raynn raises his spear, now the stone has rolled off actually and just stick. "For the honor of Sir Fernwick!" Raynn starts waving his stick around. Fortunately to the bystanders he is not completely waving randomly, but neither is he really attacking Liam, more like Raynn is doing a weird dance with it. Ellie giggles just a bit at Mae's response to Katie before shrugging again at the question, "I don't see any reason to."
Katie blinks a little at Mae. "The boy Cari made her meet? Dumb and mean?" looking up to Caspian if he has any idea what on earth Mae is talking about this time. But then there is this odd... duel? Thing? She can't help but laugh. "Oh dear...."
"Smells like you do.." Saxon nodded with a small smile, a waft of alcoholic breath washing over her as Godfrey pronounced favour on the event. Leaning into his side, an arm was slipped around his waist, the woman content to simple stand and watch the celebrating folk as the trotted around the dancefloor. Eyes did seek out the happy pair, a wrinkling of nose as she lifted a hand and waved apology for being so late. "I'll warrant it won't be long afore they have a young un for Miss Mae to occupy herself fussing over.." she said softly to the man at her side.
Caspian happily swallows his mouthful of cake, looking rather appreciative of the taste. Especially that honeyed glaze. He doesn't hesitate to take another bite, idly glancing to Mae and Ellie's marriage talk with a quirked brow, apparently not having any more of a clue than Katie about the mystery boy. But soon, his attention is taken and kept by Liam and Ryanne, and he nudges Katie with a snicker. "Here here!" he says, raising his fist to the sparring pair.
Corsair makes a few circles around the dance floor with Hammy, spanning the length of the song, until it comes to an end. There, she steps back to sketch an elegant, if humored, curtsey, smile easy. "A pleasure, Hammy, thank you," she says sincerely.
Liam raises up his 'ceremonial weapon', likely just another stick as the gimp hobbles away from his very pregnant wife and the newlywed couple. Last thing he needed was some odd slip up here that resulted in less than happy tears. Hollering with a roar that would make his father proud, "For the Honor of Mistress Fernwick!" Liam might not be too quick on his running path, but he's gotten good on that crutch (ask Lin for verification), being the one of sound mind right now, he plays to Raynn's other part, leaning, hopping and swatting in some odd dance-mock fight with the man.
"They better have children," says Orley with a pleasant grin, watching the newlyweds. O'Keefe chimes in with, "Aye... fuckin' good-lookin' children." Godfrey supresses a chuckle at the comments made, and is content to return the woman's half-embrace by wrapping his newly-freed arm around her shoulders. "Just another Fielder tradition I'm adopting for the occasion," he tells her in reference to his alcohol imbibement. "Why don't you grab a mug for yourself and have fun with us? Would make a perfect evening to be able to celebrate this special occasion with a woman I'll be married to soon enough."
Meanwhile, Hammy is dutifully bowing to Corsair. His flair for fluid movement and ease of motion is capped with an unerring inclination of his posture and sweeping of his arm. A shame he doesn't put his talents to good use, asking other women to dance in the hopes of meeting the right one.
"Yup. Real dumn'n mean an I hope I ain't never see him again," Mae adds, just to make a point. But then she turns back to Ellie. "Oh .. well that's ok! Y'can come to mine 'n then you can eat my cake." Apparently, she's not too put out that Ellie doesn't plan on getting married. "Oh!" she points to Liam and Raynn. "Look!
Katie shakes her head again as the two men playfight each other with sticks... and for her honor apperently as well at hearing Liam roar. "Oh boy...." she giggles again. Seeing Saxon wave however sends a bright warm smile to her and Godfrey both and waves back.
At this point Raynn is spinning as he moves around Liam. He almost looks graceful except the occasional stumbling that making it look rather comical. He mumbles as he swings his "ceremonial weapon." Recognizable words include "Fernwick" and "honor" though there a mixure of other words that make little sense like "Miranda," "Narnia," and "Connor." Must be the alcohol, or the Fielder inclination, has to be.
"Most boys are like that." Ellie shrugs before nodding cheerfully, "That's awfully nice. Cake is good. And parties..." She hadn't actually noticed anything until Mae pointed out Liam and Raynn, but she turns to look curiously.
Caspian seems to have caught the comment regarding children, and a smirk is flashed to the city guardsmen. "Hey, I should be fighting for your honor, eh?" pipes up Caspian as he glances to Katie, making a jabbing motion in the air with his empty hand. "You won't be swept off your feet by Liam if he wins, eh? I think both Phailin and I will have words to say about that."
Phailin turns to watch as Raynn and Liam duke it out well duel it out. Amusement flicking at the antics.
Katie catchs Caspian out of the corner of her eye listening to talk of... children? A quizzical arched brow is aimed his way at finding him so too. " I do believe you can sweep me off my feet without them having to leave the ground though. Now there is a feat."
With the dance finished, Corsair fades into the crowd to eat and drink moderately.
Liam lets Raynn do all the fancy footwork, the ox from the woodshop doing his part to fend off the drunk and stumbling fielder, the sound of the sticks swinging through the air with a whirr of sound, at times missing completely, other times meeting with a sick wet sounding 'clack!' as Liam turns and dodges in those odd dancelike motions to Raynn. He's the silent sort, it seems, with that intense sort of look...which is betrayed by the clear humor in his eyes that just /glows/ from him.
Mae giggles slightly. "They're fightin' with sticks!" she laughs, finding that profusely funny for some reason. He glances up at the older girl. "Where do you stay? I ain't never seen you before."
Its Hammy that delivers a mug of ale to the Sheriff's woman, Saxon accepting it from the suddenly gallant guardsman, indeed bending to give the vertically challenged man the smallest of kisses on his cheek. "Thank you Hammy.." she said, before like most others present her eyes were drawn to the mock challenge engaged in between Liam and Raynn. "Would you fight for my honour in such a way Lyolf?" she teased, bumping shoulder to his as she nodded in their direction.
"Oh, well, uh... That's a good question." Ellie replies to Mae. Though she does look amused as she watches the 'fight', she doesn't seem to find it quite as funny as the younger girl does. "Usually, I live in the Brownstone... but right now, I'm staying in the Green Fields tower in the castle..."
Caspian is finding Liam to be a rather funny fellow as he goes as long with the "ritual". He pumps a fist in the air, giving a holler for the combatants that's accompanied by a wide grin and laughter, but he lowers his head a bit to listen to Katie, smirking faintly. He lowers his voice now to murmur something to her.
"To the death," says Godfrey as he gives Saxon's shoulder a squeeze. O'Keefe gives Hammy a clap on the shoulder before the fellow is handed his two mugs of ale back. The Sheriff looks on to the scene involving Raynn, lips quirked slightly before he speaks again to Saxon. "Just show me a man or woman that has brought your honor into question."
Mae blinks and tears her eyes away from the battle. "Huh? Y'live in the castle? ... " He looks her up and down, taking a half step back either for distance, or to get a better look at her. "You a noble or summat?"
Katie grins a bit at whatever the Deputy has whispered in her ear. " Anytime you wish my love. Anytime you wish." pressing a kiss to his cheek.
Ellie shakes her head, still watching the battle for now, "Oh, no, I'm not noble. I just... Duke and Duchess Green Fields want me to stay there for now. So, well, I am."
Raynn begins humming as he dances, and soon becomes a chant. It's an up tempo beat about some "Ramos" at "la plaza" and "megusta," oh, and Bella and some fiesta was mentioned a couple of times. The /spirited/ Fielder sings it a couple of times before pauses, "when I left you I was but the learner. Now I am the master!" Raynn announces before going back to humming again.
Caspian grins at the response that he receives, and both of his arms slip around Katie's waist now as he moves himself in front of her. "You're sure?" he murmurs as his lips are touched to hers gently. "If you are, I believe now is the time to wish our guests good evening...." A glance to Raynn, and his smirk reappears, "and our not so, but still welcomed, guests."
"Well how come?" demands Mae whose curiosity is winning out over her show of manners. "Are your their servant?" Her head tips to the side.
Katie hums softly against those lips as they touc hher own. " Yup. I just have to do one little thing." Finger automatically curl up on his chest though. " But your so comfy and mine. I don't wanna move."
"Luckily nobody would be so foolish, not with you as guard and guardian.." Saxon countered, smiling as she raised foaming mug to mouth, took the smallest sip of slightly warmed ale. "Reckon the Deputy and Katie are 'bout to make a move.." she added, "christen their wedding bed. Wonder if they'll get away without a deal of hooting and hollering from their guests.."
Liam chuckles low under his breath as the man spins around on that one leg, the clack of his 'weapon' clashing against Raynns as that most spirited little lord dances around him and babbles on and on, humming. "There can be only one, boy..." No decapitation this time around, guys, but Liam does steal a look to the side at the mention of the bride and groom starting to leave. Again, he hollers "For Katie!" and lunges forward to try to knock Raynn's weapon and snap it in half, likely breaking his own as well in the process.
Ellie glances at the younger girl. How much to tell her? "Oh, no. They just... think it's safer that way." she finally responds.
"No one has to point it outright," says Godfrey as his hand moves from around Saxon's shoulders to between the shoulderblades. As he rubs between the two of them, he says, "I imagine he'll walk with a bit of a swagger and be a little more sure-footed in his step." He turns his head to look down at Saxon, "Perhaps we should be getting a move on ourselves?"
Caspian furrows his brows. "One little thing?" he asks, glancing down to her curling fingers and smirking vaguely at her words. "Can it not wait then? Providence knows I hardly can," he adds with a crooked grin, arms squeezing her faintly just before Liam's battle cry. And .. snap! There goes the weapons, and the battle. He calls out a whoop! for the both of them.
Raynn loses his grip on his weapon as Liam disarms him. Taking a step back, Raynn stands with his palms meeting in front of him as if praying. "You can't win, milord. If you strike me down, I shall become more powerful than you could possibly imagine! In the name of Fernwick!" Raynn declares loudly, to no one in particular.
Mae thinks that over for a long time, apparently not able to make much sense of it. "Oh ........ it's ok t'be a servant," she says, just in case Ellie is hiding that little fact fro her. "My mum was one before. I been in the castle, but I ain't live there. I live with Cari, an' she makes hats."
Ellie shakes her head at Mae, "Oh, no. I'm not... I, well, I'm studying to be a healer. It's just, oh, it's a long story."
Katie blinks just for a moment. " Are... are they both fighting for our honor now?" clearly confused. But nods just a little. " I'll be right back, promise." Wriggling out of his arms before scooting over to where Mae talks. Taking the honeysuckle crown off from her head, lays it lightly upon the girls own. "There. Now you have a pretty dress and the flowers too." Kissing Mae's head once more. " You two have lots of fun and dance and eat cake till your tummies hurt." A wink given to each, Mae and Ellie, before heading back to that husband of hers.
Phailin chuckles to herself. Perfectly content to people watch.
Saxon drains her mug in one smooth movement, turning to place it on one of the trestles, a piece of wedding cake picked up in its place. "Hmm, sounds a reasonable idea, get you home afore you are more alcohol than man.." she replied to Godfrey's suggestion of making tracks, picking off a corner of the cake, squeezing it lightly between finger and thumb to paint grease upon her flesh before transferring it to her mouth. "Cakes delicious.." she said, breaking off another corner to offer it up to Godfrey. "Guess I'm ready whenever you like."
"Oh! I ain't know any healers," Mae says, sounding impressed. "That's why y'gotta stay in the castle?" Still, the sense of that eludes her, but luckily enough here comes Katie to save the day! She smiles brightly as the honeysuckle is bestowed upon her, and before she can get away, she hugs her again. "Thank ya Katie!" And better yet, she has permission to get a third piece of cake! Oh happy day.
Liam looks at Raynn, chin lifted and looking down his nose at the man, still gripping that broken weapon. No, there's no weird blue ghosts lingering around or jabber on about the force. Instead, Liam advances on Raynn, if that lopsided gait could ever be imposing, it was now. "You challenged Mistress Katie's honor. And lost. But...I can have some pity on a man who fought with honor." Once there, he flicks away that broken stick and throws that arm around Raynn's shoulders. "In the name of Fernwick indeed! In the name and honor of the Master and Mistress Fernwick!" He shouts over to the couple and gives another heartfelt whoop "Someone get my man here a drink! I think he's in danger of sobering up." Liam laughs, jostling Raynn.
Godfrey mirrors Saxon's movements in order to sample the cake. His first order of business is to take the now-empty mug of ale and set on the nearest flat surface. Next is to take his forefinger and thumb, reaching for the morsel that she offers and bringing it to his mouth. The cake is sampled, and the slow movement of lips and tongue suggest that he is inclined to have move. "One piece," he tells Saxon as he reaches for his own small slice of the cake. "One ... and I'll gladly walk you home, Sax. Sound fair?"
Phailin grins and applauds for Liam's cheer. "For Master and Mistress Fernwick! Hoo ha!" See she makes a good cheerleader.
"Oh, congratulations on being married." Ellie remembers to say something polite to Katie when the flowers are given to Mae. She doesn't go for more cake, though. Not yet, anyway. Looking back at Mae, she shakes her head, "Well, no... not exactly."
"Well, we are one now," remarks Caspian with a vague grin to Katie before she moves off. He fidgets slightly on his feet once she's gone to speak to the kids, but his eyes are hardly away from her for more than a few seconds at a time. Liam's cry easily reaches his ears though, and he turns to flash him a grin, eyes darting to Raynn after. "Aye, you're right! Think he's even starting to walk straight. Fill'm up! There's plenty for all." Ah, and here comes Katie. His arm wraps around her middle when she's near enough, pulling her to his side. "We thank you all for coming. We've bloody good friends, and we're happy to've shared this all with you," said meaningfully to each person left, from city guards, to nobles, and commoners.
Raynn obviously feigns seriousness, "I made a promise, milord. A /promise/. 'Don't you give up, Raynn Fabira!', and I don't mean to. I don't mean to!" Raynn breaths heavily, "alas, the comedy is over, applaud!" Raynn waves a hand to the spectators, though not getting a huge reception, before turning back to Liam, "yes, a drink, good call, my friend, good call!"
Katie giggles a little, "Have fun and keep dancing drinking and eating.. we are off for.. other delights ourselves."
Mae cheers along with the rest. "To Caspian 'n Katie!" She's not going to left out with the remnants of festivities. But she also has a puzzle to figure out, and that puzzle is Ellie. "Oh. Soooo .. you're not stayin' in the castle cuz you're a healer? n' you ain't a noble, 'n you ain't a servant?" Well ... what the heck is left for her to be castle-worthy?
Phailin grins at Katie when she hears that and just simply points at her belly. Obviously saying silently that in a few months time Katie will be round.
Liam claps Raynn on the shoulder. "M'lord, I'll meet you at the next wedding for a similar duel to the death, eh?" he nods and meanders over to the table of drinks and all, quickly shoving one in Raynn's hand. "Kate. Caspian." he points and holds there a moment. Fingers sprawl wide along with a grin as he waves them off "To the abyss with it, go have fun you crazy kids." He points at Lin and warns "Don't give her any ideas, woman!"
"Give it to 'er good, Fernwick!" shouts O'Keefe while raising his mug. "And don't pretend you don't know what I'm talkin' about, either!" Stockton has already re-lit his pipe, his stoic gaze watching the newlyweds. Despite his pessimism, he stayed through the occasion and even indulged in a drink.
Katie shakes her head at Lin at that pointed finger.
"Teeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeea!" No babies.. well not yet
Raynn raises a glass. "To the happy couple!" Raynn cheers before downing the entire thing. Not a good idea, clearly.
"Exactly." Ellie says cheerfully to Mae. She thinks the other girl finally understands. Or, so she hopes anyway.
Phailin giggles at Liam and than at Katie for their reactions. Score for the Florist!
Katie shoots such a look over to the Guards at there jeering, one of those seductive looks that one would not think sweet little Katie capable of. " He always does guys... he always does." Then spoils it by blushing.
Saxon curves herself into Godfrey's side, a lazy contented smile upon her lips as she watches the party start to break up. "Seems fair.." she said, licking cake crumbs from tips of fingers before smoothing down the creases of her dress, painting a dark streak of grease down the fabric. "Ready to go now? Seems like people are either settling in for the night or drifting already."
Caspian eyes Phailin, having caught her gesture, and he grins in reply to it while placing one of his hands on Kathrine's obviously child-free stomach. His eyes turn to Liam now though as he speaks their names, and he grins a sort of eager grin in answer to him. And then, before he can reply to the guard, Katie does, which causes him to laugh out loud. "Y'see why I married her, eh?" he grins to his familiar companions. "Night! Night Godfrey, Saxon! Liam, Phailin! Guards...and everyone!" And with that, the newlyweds are off!
