Plaza of the Keeper Center - Village Wealth speaks volumes at the village center. Cobblestone streets extend in all directions forming a true crossroads that is marked in the center with a large fountain. The village buildings are all two story side-by-side structures with most containing shops on the bottom half with occasional breaks between blocks for delivery alleys. All of the buildings on this street proclaim the success of the merchants that have made it to the high enough status to operate shops in the prestigious Plaza of the Keeper. Many shop windows have flower boxes that add a quaint charm for all that visit or live in the area. The area closest to the center boasts a tavern and other food establishments that often carry scents of fresh bread, sweets or other impressive meals to draw patrons to their shops. Guards are a constant presence with their main duty being the safety of the wealthy that chose to spend a day in the village.
It's clear, warm and calm. Obvious exits: Keeper West <KW> Castle Courtyard <CC> Keeper East <KE> Gateway Center <GPC>
Standing near to the entrance of the Isle of Ale, looking about at the various streets with a somber expression, is a tall woman with a wiry build. She checks the various angles to the main entrance first, a faint line on her brow as she moves about. She looks at the artificial lighting, and then the moon, before she considers the streets themselves and the ground. She shakes her head after surveying the main entrance, muttering to herself, "Not possible.. he'd have been seen." She seems about ready to enter the establishment.
Lockler is making his way along the streets swiftly and quickly. eyes darting out for anybody around or near him. Seeming to be searching for something or somebody. A stop as he blinks to Briana, "Need help finding somebody?" His cloak whisking around him, a rather fine one to. Blinking a moment before he glances around again and frowns, "Damn it all those proclimations is going to turn this down in on itself." The stars glitter like diamonds in the deep sapphire blue of the night sky.
Mya seems to have gathered a group of about 20 people with her. "Come on! We're going to search every alleyway, street, corner, crevice, building and outhouse in this town! We're going to find that cloaked man, and all share in the bounty!" she says, to the cheers of the rather rambunctious crowd.
Lachesis arrives from the castle courtyard.
Briana moves to one side of the door, standing near to Lockler as it happens. She nods politely to the man, and eyes the mob with Mya. When she speaks, her words are addressed to the man, rather than the lady leading the mob: "That is a danger," she tells him, "but with all this," a gestures towards the mob, "the opportunity to uncover the miscreant is slim. I simply seek to establish his method by returning to his earlier crimes. Lacking in the details of the original crime, I needs must address those that I know." She glances at the tavern, and then at the mob. "Possibly, I might just go and find a quiet corner to read in.."
Lockler nods slowly to Briana, "I can explain what I know. Along with what a lot of other people don't know. Yet finding him. Only a idiot would stay out in the streets like this when he is being hunted so terribly so. Fact of the matter is if he is smart, which his method suggest he will be out of town and done with his business for several months. Though something tells me his pride will over ride any sense of the mater, but not likely tonight."
The crowd with Mya splits up into groups of three or four, and each go to a business in the plaza. Mya makes her way with a couple of other people to the tavern. She catches bits of the two's conversation nearby. "Yeah, but we gotta keep looking. 40 platinum. Shit, that's more than I make in 2 years," she says.
Lachesis moves along quietly enough - no cloak here! - and without any crowd. She has the look of one just going about her business, no muss or fuss, and headed on towards the coffee shop. She does look towards the crowd that splits apart, but she seems content to go along on her way.
"I'd like to hear what thou know'st, young man," Briana says, her somber expression easing slightly into something less forboding. She nods to the words of Mya. "I'm not here for reward money," she says in a quiet tone, "just to stop this .. serial criminal before too many innocents are harmed." She watches the various groups disperse with a critical eye. "May Providence keep everyone safe this eve.."
"He could be walking among them and they would never know it." He offers dryly and glances to Briana. Shall we head inside then?" Motioning ot the door, "I could use a good drink after this. Greed is often one of the most dangerous things. I am sure the Duke Meant well, but this will not end so I am afraid."
Mya looks a bit offended at Lockler's assumption of her and the people she is with. She looks like she's about to say something, then thinks better of it. "Come on, let's go," she says to the group with her, "Check out the tavern, then let's get going. It's going to be a long night. Remember, what I told you about him." So, maybe she knows something about the cloaked figure, and isn't just blindly going about town. Or, maybe she's just leading a greedy mob through town.
Briana smiles just faintly at the man, and lifts her right hand to touch it lightly to her chest. "Briana Helygen," she tells him in a quiet tone, "I am a lady in waiting to Lady Fang." She gestures with that same right hand for Lockler to preceed her into the tavern. "I will drink with thee, and thou canst impart thy wisdom to me."
Mya and her group have been going through the businesses in the center, and not too delicately either. Several shouts within some of the buildings are heard, and glass breaking. Mya comes out of the bakery, scowling. "Dammit, I told you people to be careful!" she says to the crowd gathering in the center. "Come on, we're done here, on to the next street."
Lockler nods at that, "I just hope they don't hurt anybody innocent. I have been on the streets long enough to never know of a mob getting justice done right." Smirking at that, 'And most of the time not even the right person. Yes I could use a good brandy." Opening hte tavern door for Briana, "Lockler Doervern."
You move towards Plaza of the Keeper North - Village.
Plaza of the Keeper North - Village This part of the village runs along the back wall of the castle and all of the shops and residences are on one side of the road which leaves great views of the sea and the docks. Rather than cobblestone, the road is made up of handsomely tended wooden planks to help counter the uncertainty of the rocky edges at the end of the island. Once away from the road that leads towards the docks, this is a favorite daytime place for a leisurely walk or to visit one of the boardwalk cafes. A small staircase leads down to the beach area that stretches far out to the east with the docks on the west.
It's clear, warm and calm.
Sritara arrives from the beach area.
The waning crescent moon Minuet disappears below the western horizon.
A small cloaked figure makes its way up the beach. The hood is pulled low, hiding the face of the girl in shadow. She doesn't look up, staring at the ground as she paces steadily up towards the Keeper North.
There is a crowd of about 20 people in this area. They are going from business to business, making there way into even private areas, if they can. Mya is in the middle of the crowd, whipping them up into a frenzy, it seems. "We're going to find him before those stupid city guard will! They couldn't find their arses if it wasn't attached!" she says. Just then, a cloak figure appears, and Mya cries, "There he is! Get him!"
Hearing the cry of there he is! The cloaked figure stops and the girl's face still hidden by shadow, she looks around, trying to see who they must mean.
Mya and a few others come running up to the small cloaked figure, weapons drawn. Mya tries to lunge at the cloaked figure and capture it. "Don't move if you want to live, you vile creature!" she says.
Elizabeth comes down the road from Plaza of the Keeper East.
There's a mob of about twenty people and a little ways away there is a little cloaked figure. The girl under the cloak with her face completely hidden in shadow is looking over her shoulder, trying to see who the mob must mean. Suddenly she gets tackled by Mya, successfully captured, but they may be surprised to hear a squeak of surprise and pain that sounds much more like a victim of the Cloaked Figure, rather than the Cloaked Figure himself.
Elizabeth seems to think she was going to get a bit of coffee. Unfortunately, she wasn't expecting the mob, and skirts to the side. Snowy hair or not, she does try to blend to the background to try and get a read on the crowd.
Mya keeps firm hold on the small figure, and rips the hood of the cloak off the girl, if possible. "What the..." she starts, as the crowd starts to gather around her, pushing to get a look at who they've captured. "Didn't know the master criminal was a girl!" says one of them. "Let's get her to the jail!"
Sritara stares up at Mya with wide, frightened eyes and then looks around at the crowd surrounding her. She opens her mouth to try to say something but no sound comes out and she is too frightened to move yet.
Elizabeth is still as the grave. She may have heard the words, but doesn't seem to wish to become involved. At least, not just yet.
Mya is big and strong, and most likely can pick the girl up pretty easily, and throw her over her shoulder. First, though, she searches the girl, to see if she has any weapons on her.
Caspian arrives from Gateway East.
The crowd seems to be getting even more boisterous and excited, at the prospect of collecting the 40 platinum so easily. Several of the men in the crowd are clapping each other on the back. "Master criminal my ass!" one says to the other.
Mya is in the middle of a huge crowd, and she's about to toss a small cloaked figure over one shoulder and start to carry her towards the jail.
Sritara is very easily lifted up by Mya, the girl weighing barely 90 pounds. A small dagger will be found hidden under her dress. The small cloaked girl decides to be very still in the midst of the angry mob and wait for the situation to resolve itself.
Not a moment's rest when shouts of crowds, mobs, fright, and rewards reach the ears of the off duty, but never really off duty Deputy. Caspian emerges from the Gateway East with a frown that only deepens slightly at all of the people banded around something or one. "Watch it. Move aside!" said as he tries to push his way through the crowd, keeping one had safely on the hilt of his sword. "What's the noise here, eh?"
Elizabeth finds a bit of wall to lean upon. She's staying far away from mobs. She's already had her share of those, and does try not to be noticed.
The crowd reluctantly parts for the deputy sheriff, revealing Mya in the middle of the plaza, with a small cloaked figure over her shoulder. "Oh, just in time!" she says, "Found that cloaked figure. We'll be takin' that reward now." She unceremoniously drops the young girl in the cloak onto the ground.
The girl yelps a bit in pain as she gets dropped onto the ground. Wincing she rubs her side and not looking particularly frightened that she will actually be seriously accused of being the infamous cloaked figure, the girl looks silently up at Caspian.
Jasil arrives from Gateway East.
Jasil walks through the plaza glancing down at a poster he found laying on the ground. He stops and looks over the plaza, he raises his pipe to light.
There is a large crowd in the plaza, a rowdy and boisterous one, in fact. In the middle is Mya and the Deputy Sheriff, and Sritara, who is currently on the ground in front of Mya, as if the girl had been dropped there. There are shouts from the crowd, "Give us our reward! We caught the criminal, fair and square!"
Caspian makes his way through the crowd til he gets to the center, eyes drifting first to Mya. He quirks a brow at her, then looks down at the cloaked figure. The cloaked girl? "Not every damn person that wears a cloak is someone you need to go grabbing!" he says, voice elevated, speaking not truly to one person but to all who are able to hear. "You're not getting a tin."
The girl is indeed wearing a cloak, and she is a figure... but she is not 'the' cloaked figure. As Caspian tells off the crowd for accusing her as the cloaked figure, the girl carefully starts to get to her feet, still rubbing her hip that took most of the blow when she hit the ground. Silently she looks up at Mya.
Jasil watches the crowd as he finds a wall to lean against, he takes a drag from his pipe then shakes his head.
Elizabeth is the silent, white-haired observer. She doesn't step forward, merely watching the inner working of the law, perhaps.
Mya looks at Caspian, an angry expression on her face. "You haven't even questioned her! How do you know she's not the one you're looking for?" she says, in a forceful tone. She looks down at the girl, then to the deputy again, as the crowd's shouts grow angrier. "I don't think you can control this crowd, Deputy," Mya says, "I can't be responsible for what they might do, if you let this girl go."
"Because I'd like to think I've more information of what the fool looks like than you do," Caspian retorts with lowered brows, reaching out a hand to help Sritara rise. Blue eyes glance to the crowd as their anger seems to swell, but his eyes merely narrow before he returns them to Mya. "Not a person'll lay a hand on this girl if they're not wanting a stay in jail. The lot of you need to head home. You're doing nothin' but scaring the hell out've everyone."
The girl bites her lower lip, looking uneasily at the crowd as Mya hints at what might happen to if she is let go. She looks up at Caspian for a moment and then looks over at Mya. "I ent the one you be lookin for... one you be lookin for is a man..." she tells them. Then she looks back over at Caspian.
An apple is thrown from somewhere in the crowd, towards the Deputy Sheriff, and the crowd roars it's disapproval at his words. "We got as much right to search for the criminal as anyone else!" someone shouts. Mya glares at the Deputy. "Guess only nobles and their paid guards will be able to be able to claim the reward, huh?" she says, "Yeah, all us hard workin' people, those who keep this city runnin', we're just told to go home to our cold, draughty flats. Screw that!" When the young girl says she's not the one, she says, "Well, why the hell are you out in a cloak, girl? It's damned 75 degrees out! Are you daft?"
Frowning up at Mya the girl says, "Feels colder than that to me... get cold easily, I do. Didn't know I'd be in danger of being accused of being the one who has been doing all those things recently... how could I be thought to be him?"
Elizabeth sighs heavily and pushes away from the wall. "Sheriff," she calls to the man, not wanting to interrupt. The direction of the apple receiving a disparaging look. "Would you like some assistance?"
The thrown apple falls near the Sheriff, knocking him in the shoulder, though it's a thing seemingly easily ignored. Mya's glare is returned with a cool look. "Bring in the /right/ man and you'll be paid your share," he answers with a vague scowl, eyes darting from her to drift from face to face. "You're being told to go home a s all you're doing is terrorizing your own," he says, gesturing to Sritara. "You can either go home, or find your place in a cell."
Jasil pulls a flask from his pocket and takes a sip. He takes another puff from his pipe and moves on.
Mya looks at the girl. "Take the damned cloak off, and get somewhere inside then, ya git," she says, in a not kind tone. Looking up at the Sheriff, she says, "Oh, we'll go. And find the real criminal. No thanks to you, Deputy." She starts to push her way through the crowd, a few of the people following her, others breaking up into small groups. Seems they are dispersing. But are they going home?
The girl watches Mya leave with a frown but doesn't say anything, just watching the woman go, silently. After a moment she glances over at Elizabeth, having heard an offer of help to the deputy from that direction. Then silently she glances up once more at Caspian.
Caspian doesn't seem to have heard Elizabeth, what with all the people and shouting about. But then they begin to dissipate, but his eyes remain on Mya with a hardened expression. "Are you alright?" is asked of Sritara, but even as he does so he steps forward after the inventor woman, a hand reaching out to grasp for her arm.
Ryota comes down the road from Plaza of the Keeper East.
Elizabeth isn't deterred, she merely insinuates herself close to the sheriff's soldier. Nothing forboding about the woman. Her hands lacing together at her waist, and listening. Another offer ready should Caspain notice her.
The crowd IS dispersing, going into various plazas nearby. As Deputy Caspian grabs Mya's arm, she whips around her sword at her hip banging against her thigh. "What?" she says, in an angry tone. "We're dispersing. Like you ordered. /Sir./"
Ryota runs into plaza area swinging a torch high "Find the Cloaked!"
Little Sritara nods at Caspian's question and she murmurs softly, "Yes, sir..." Then as someone runs into the area with a torch, the girl silently watches him for a moment or two before looking back over at Mya and Caspian.
There's about 20 people here, the crowd scattering into various nearby plazas. There's a small crowd still in the middle of this plaza, though.
Caspian does indeed note Elizabeth now that she is closer, and his eyes drift to her momentarily, as if trying to place her as a lingering one of the departing crowd or not. Apparently going with the latter, his gaze is back on Mya. "I was foolish, as I first thought of you as a person with intellect at our first wordless meeting." His grip remains on her, firm yet not overly hostile. "Your voice was enough to rally those people, and you led them blindly with anger. People more foolish than you have made the same mistake and paid dire consequences or it. Your actions will do nothing but cause more panic and fear through the city. Already can't you see what you've done?"
And with the mob mentality, the presense of knights and guards has been amplified. Likely, neither will have much rest tonight.
Ryota stops and glares around the plaza torch held high "Where is everyone going we need to find this person!"
"Find who," calls back Elizabeth. She's calm, and keeps her hands to her side. Not the alarmist sort really. She seems to study Ryota for a moment before looking to Caspian for some sort of guidance.
Ryota pulls a poster from his ragged pants pocket "Whoever the person is listed on this wanted poster" He holds the poster up and points to it.
The Deputy's words seem to have an effect on Mya. On one hand, the fact that she can easily influence so many people is... well... kind of cool, right? But she looks like she realizes he is right. "Sorry, Deputy," she says, "Just got a mite carried away. That reward is enough to make anybody go a bit nuts, don't you think?" A few of the crowd still there nod in agreement. "Could feed my family for years!" one man says. As Ryota tries to recruit people from the crowd the Deputy has just broken up, one or two drift towards him.
Caspian slowly loosens his grip from Mya's arm, eyes steady on her. "Unfortunately, those who posted the incredible amount didn't seem to think of that beforehand." His frown is still there, though slightly less harsh than before. A vague breath is exhaled before he steps from her, glancing towards the shouting Ryota and the magnetism his words seem to have. "Stealth might've given better results. By now, he's gone in to hiding if he has any sense at all, which ruins all efforts the guard has put forth. Leave it and home," said to Ryota, "or go to jail."
Srtiara remains silent, glancing from Caspian to Mya as they talk, but then as the deputy turns his attention to Ryota, the girl looks over at the man and watches him for a moment.
Mya gives a soft sigh as Caspian turns from her. She then notices that the small cloaked girl is still there. She makes her way over to the girl. "Hey, I'm really sorry," she says, "Can I escort you home? You really shouldn't be wandering around alone at night. Especially tonight." See, she is trying to make up for her stupidity and rudeness. Really.
Ryota begins to talk loudly as more gather "Let's burn the twisted bastard out!" He glances at Caspian "but....but just tell me why haven't you caught him yet?" Ryota swings the torch around "Let's find em!"
When the man starts to talk about burning the criminal out, the crowd starts to back away from him. "Hey, you idiot, WE live here, too!" says someone in the crowd. "We don't want our homes and businesses burned!"
Elizabeth gives Ryota a level gaze, but doesn't say anything. She seems to think that things are well in hand, because she heads back towards the university.
As Mya approaches Sritara, the girl turns her attention from the second rabble rouser to the first. She watches the woman for a moment or two before nodding, accepting the apology and the offer of an escort and murmurs, "Thank you... methinks that would be good..."
Ryota the man glares around at the crowd "What businesses if this keeps up no one will feel safe to leave their home to seek the service of your business!"
Caspian's eyes slip to Mya and Sritara, a single brow just vaguely elevating at the woman's sudden ... helpfulness. An inward sigh, and his attention turns back to Ryota quickly, but he can't help but smirk at the reluctance heard by a few. At least some sense seems to be returning. "I needn't tell you anything other than the last warning you'll receive from me. Hand me the torch else you'll find a bolt through the leg."
The crowd starts to break up, people heading towards their homes. A few can be heard as they leave, "Whacko..." "At least we weren't tryin' to destroy stuff while searchin'..." "Maybe the Deputy's right... gotta find out more about this guy before we go huntin' for him..."
Mya gives Sritara her dagger back. "Name's Mya. I live in Fairview Quarters. How about you, hun?" she asks the girl. Yes, she is suddenly very helpful. Guilt will do that, ya know.
In a mad rage Ryota throws the torch down at the ground "Just do your job, until he is found I will be searching for em." He then storms off in a hurry on his hunt for riches.
Caspian is quick to retrieve the torch from the wooden road with a mild scowl reserved for the retreating man. "Fool..." muttered as he straightens, head shaking mildly. Just barely refraining from throwing something at him, he squares his shoulders and glances about the keeper north. Peace kept? .. Eh. Somewhat for the moment. He eyes Mya and Sritara. "The two of you are alright to be left alone together?" he asks, quirking a brow slightly towards Mya.
The crowd has gone, thankfully, or Royta might have found himself pummeled. Mya will put a protective arm around Sritara, if allowed. "Come on then," she says, "Your building is right next to him." At the question from the Deputy, she nods. "Yes sir," she says, "And again, I apologize for my actions earlier. In fact, if you want any help in keepin' the peace, let me know. Guess having law and order is worth at least 40 platinum, right?"
The girl allows Mya to put her arm around Sritara. Silently she looks up at the woman and then over at Caspian, keeping her expression neutral.
"I'm sure you'll be the first that I see for assistance," Caspian replies, his tone making it difficult to tell if that was meant to be ... condescending or not. But whatever his intention, the very slight smile that he does offer seems genuine enough, even if it is short lived. Fingers are raked through his hair before he (and the torch!) begin towards other parts of the city with narrowed and watchful eyes, on the lookout for further crowds and possibly innocent captives.
Mya gives Sritara a smile. "Come on, then. It's getting late. A young girl like you shouldn't be out. What were you doing down here, anyway?" she asks curiously. She gives a respectful nod to Caspian as he leaves. "Providence be with ya," she says to him, before she escorts the girl home.
