Infirmary - Staff Wing - Gateway Castle
- The infirmary itself is even larger than the waiting room, but done in a very similar style. All is white washed, giving a consistent glow to the floor, walls, and shelves. The walls are lined with counters and shelves, each filled with all the necessary items it takes to run a proper infirmary: clean cloths, fresh water, and various bottles of potions, powders, roots, and dried leaves. Three rows of five cots are lined up neatly in the center of the room, each spaced so that healers may go where necessary without having to bump into anything or anyone. Four beds are set against the wall at the far side, on the wall with the door leading into the morgue. Each bed is surrounded by curtains, apparently for emergency surgeries and the like. And there was always a constant, silent bustle. White garbed healers moving about, caring for patients or seeing to inventory.
It's really like old times again, when Gwyn was stuck in here for weeks on end. This time, however, she can get up and move around if she chooses and she's spent much of the day wandering over to the window to watch the world and wandering back to her cot for a nap. She looks as if she's been on the wrong end of a prize fight, nasty purple bruises coming out on her face and down her right shoulder. She's in bed at the moment, but awake even if she looks as if she's only just woken up again, still yawning and blinking as she gets her bearings.
It's nearer evening than afternoon that a pair of figures enter the infirmary -- figures not entirely unfamiliar to the place's current inhabitant. Neither look so hot, though the worse of the pair -- his face swathed in bandage -- is led immediately toward a cot, to be attended first.
The second? Is left standing for a moment, but Leon's barely had a moment to open his mouth before a healer points him toward a cot, too. He's pale, and the healer helps him shrug out of his shirt to show bandages on both forearms and, with his back to Gwyneth, another 'round his back. "No," he's answering, shaking his head, "Really. I'm -- tend /Josh/."
It's a familiar voice, and that in and of itself wakes Gwyneth up to look over. She's not shy, giving Leon's skinny form a once over, taking in bandages and protests. "Leon." She swings her legs off her cot, pushing herself up to standing, taking a moment there where she looks as if she's nto going to catch her balance and end up back in the cot. Only a moment though, and then she's limping over to where Leon has been pointed to a cot. "Healers. Enough. Tend. Both."
Poor Josh. He probably looks like a mummy. A good thing his eyes didn't get gauged out. Since even in this setup he is wearing his glasses. He's not cursing but if he was a man that did that, that is what he'd do right at the moment. Making some odd noise when a healer nears. Its more than likely a complaint
Leon's form is not /so/ skinny, and it bears as many scars as any young Guardians lad, though some of his are more peculiar -- the three pitchfork prong-shaped scars in his gut, for example, or the thin, pale stripes along his shoulders. And he'll bear a couple more, too: he submits as the healers unwrap the bandages from around his forearms, the left bearing a long gash, the right? Puncture marks, as left by an animal's teeth.
"Gwyneth?" he looks up, surprised, at that familiar voice, and -- pale, wincing at the ministrations -- his brow furrows. "What're you doing /here/?" It's a question, but it's not surprised.
"Fight." Captain obvious is around it would seem from Gwyneth. "Kept. Check. Head. Baby." She limps closer, and points at his arms. "What? Bit?" She can tell a bite mark when she sees one, and she's not stupid. Her dark eyes settle onto Josh for a while, considering his state and his protests at getting patched up. "Where?" She frowns, a deep furrow in her brow.
Joshua has pretty much given up talking so he mimics to the healer. Pointing to his right leg. Indicating that he feels like that is the worst injury verses what happened to his face. In fact his pant leg is ripped and the blood there still oozes. Evidence that the injur there is deep and lucky him will require a cane to get around. Teeth marks are found there. With his face bandaged up at the moment its hard to tell what kind of marks he recieved there.
"...fight," Leon replies, almost rueful, though he grimaces as the healer begins cleaning out the wounds on his arm. No cry, though; not from him. His eyes shift with some worry to Josh.
"A -- it was a thing, like a cat," Leon answers finally, not drawing his eyes away from his cousin. "Out in some ruins. We were camping."
Gwyneth can share her cane, although for the moment she's eschewed it in favour of using various cots and chairs for balance and stability as she limps. She mostly stays out of the healer's way, but she's giving both of them a good once over. "Cat? Weird. Cat. Heard. Rumours. About?" Her gaze settles onto Joshua as well, watching those injuries and the healers who are fussing over him. Better fussing over him than fussing over her.
Josh is trying to pay attention to what the healers are doing to him. Another groan when one decides to get up close and personal and starts to unwind the bandages that were hasistly put on his face. His glasses put to the side. When his features are revealed its obvious whatever attacked him had claws. Three marks are slashed across his face, in a angle. The cuts a bit more shallow than the leg but lucky lord is going to have interesting scars. He makes a grunting noise as if to indicate he's heard Gwyneth as he tries to stay in the now and answer, "No...demon...shadows..."
Grunts are a language that Gwyneth understands and she hunhs softly in understanding. "Demon? Made? Shadows? In Shadows?" She watches, coming to settle on a cot opposite the two of them. "Wait. Bandaged. Patched. Answer." She's not in a rush to get anywhere, surprisingly, preferring to stay to keep an eye on both of them.
"Demons, in shadows. Demons, made of shadows," Leon agrees, his lips pressed thin and pale as one healer sets to sewing up the gash in his left arm. "We roused them. And then I killed them." A pause, a pained look toward Joshua again. "...but not quick enough."
Yeah cause Josh here was just minding his own business. But he has gone quiet again as one of the healers works on sewing the wound on his leg. The pants he wore are ruined as scissors were taken to his pant leg to reveal his leg more. For any immodesty that is shown, he doesn't seem to care at the moment. Poor Josh he'll probably get stitches on his face to. Hence the interesting scars. Joshua doesn't of course blame Leon in any of this.
Gwyneth frowns deeply, although the why of her still being in the infirmary is probably indicated by her barely stifled yawn. She's terribly interested, and wants to quiz them both, but even for having woken up recently, she's still tired enough to look as if she's going to doze off where she's sitting. "Both. Not dead. Killed. Fast. Enough. Wounds. Heal." She pushes herself up to come close enough to touch Leon somewhere that isnt injured.. there's little such luck on Josh's skin. "Talk. Later. You. Bandage. Me. Sleep. You. Sleep. Heal. Stay." It's the healer's call of course if the two of them are destined to spend the night, but Gwyneth's opinions are clear. If she's staying, clearly they should stay, easier to find them for questioning later that way.
"...fast enough. I suppose," Leon agrees, though it's clear he's not entirely convinced on the matter. Still, he offers a wry smile -- one only interrupted by the healers' ministrations. "Good night, m'lady." Like Josh, he'll be under their attentions for a while: but not quite so long a while.
A pause, and then: "How you holding up, Josh?"
Josh isn't making any sense now. In the hands of the healers he's trying to bite his tongue so he doesn't say anything inappropriate. He more than likely will stay the night for observation and well, they'll probably have to give him something for the pain. The wimp. His leg already being elevated.
Silence from Josh is taken neither as a good or bad; Leon can see the struggle he's enduring, anyway, and merely nods, submitting himself to the healers' attentions in silence.
Ysora comes in from the waiting room.
Leon and Josh are situated on cots near one another, and both being attended by healers. One healer stitches up a long gash on Leon's left forearm, and another cleans out some puncture wounds on his right. His set features tell a tale of reluctant submission to their ministrations.
Josh is getting the last work of the healers done on him. His leg looks to be elevated. A poultice is being worked on his features so that he may not get an infection. Three slashing marks are angry and red on his face as if claws did that. His leg already sewn to indicate that gash was deep. More than likely hit bone.
See what happens when rumors start? Family members worriedly descend! Ysora limps in with a servant in tow, even if for once she didn't have time to arrange for food. She looks between Leon and Josh for a moment and frowns. "Are you both staying here overnight? What happened? How are you?" Leon first - she descends towards his front since the sides are occupied, seeking a spot of forehead to kiss. Beware, Josh, you are probably next
Ysora's arrival brightens Leon's eyes, and a smile tugs his features -- his, at least, aren't covered in poultice and goo. "Ysora!" he exclaims, and tilts his head toward Josh. But the smile falters toward solemnity soon enough. "Overnight," he nods. "I -- they say I can go when they've got bandages on, but I'll stay and pray with Josh. Just a few scratches," he explains his own wounds, though winces as the healer pulls tight the thread that sews his left arm shut.
Josh doesn't attempt to look in the direction of Leon and Ys. His voice roughened from biting his tongue and the ability of having found it difficult to speak. "Yeah..." Agreeing with Leon. "Shadow...demons...I...hurt..." Mumbling some around the work that the healer is doing.
Ysora turns her head towards the maid and nods. "Pastries and sandwiches. The chocolate filled one especially for the pastries. Enough for Leon plus one." she informs the young woman. A curtsey and the maid hurries off to fetch enough food for about four people. She manages to find a bit of Leon to give an affectionate kiss and then heads towards Josh. "My poor, dear cousin. You did not have to go to such extremes to avoid a hug, you know!"
Joshua tries to laugh. But it comes off short. He's kind of eyeaballing Ysora when she comes in his line of vision. "Silly...me..."
"I don't think either of us was /trying/, Ys," Leon points out dryly," though Josh's words draw a short snicker from him.
Ysora awwwws lovingly and then smiles at Joshua. "This time you're free. But I -will- hug you again as soon as you'll let me." She smiles at him and reaches out towards his hair, but doesn't quite touch him. "You weren't trying, I suppose. What happened?"
Joshua eyes towards Leon as if to indicate that one is better with the information. But he says slow and steady, "Creature...fought..got..me...good...minding my own business.."
Ysora nods as she listens. "I'll ask him for more detail later. You sound like talking is not a pleasant sensation right now. Is there anything I can do for you?"
Joshua shakes his head no towards Ysora. Than he thinks better of it and attempts to clear his throat and speak again. "Find..out...what...happened...to...sword..." If Ysora pays attention she'd have notice that both her brother and cousin now wear a celtic knot in the palm of their hand as if they got marked.
"A sword, Joshua? Who else was with you that I can speak to about this, perhaps?" She turns to look at the healers in attendance. "Did they have a sword with them when they came in," Ysora asks one of them.
A healer shakes her head in the negative towards Ysora when she asks that question. Josh licks his lips and closes his eyes as he hears Ysora's inquiry. One name he mentions is of course, "Tiege..." Other names fast come. "Addison...Valentine...Dorian..." Not using titles as it takes to much work right now to do that.
/I should have known./ That's the look on Ysora's face when the name Tiege is mentioned, though it comes with amused affection. She nods to have a chair pulled over so she can write a message. "I'll send a message to all of them to advise them that you and Leon are still here and asking about it." Joshua gives a slow nod to indicate that he's heard her. "Thank you...appericate it...." Taking in a breath and lets it out. Another thought comes to him and its not about the trip.
"Tell...brother...Grear...teach..me..fight..." The pain meds given and the work having been done on him thus far starting to affect him and his speech.
Ysora finishes writing the note as the servant returns with some of the food, the rest to be delivered later. She hands the note over to her and then says, "Make three more copies and send them out to the Marquis Draught, my cousin Tiege, Valentine, and Mistress Brandivere." She smiles and then turns back to Joshua. "We'll speak to him when you're in better shape for that. Perhaps you can study with Helena."
"I'd like...that..." Words are slow and sincere. Sure it would be learning with a girl but a good thing that doesn't phase Josh to much. "Thank you...appericate it.."
"Rest now. Your voice, your body. I'll be here." The reassuring smile is in her voice as well as her face. Ysora is just that same ray of sunshine even in the dark hours.
Josh does as bidded and finally just lets the medicine take effect. Not speaking anymore. But he does something unexpected and reaches his hand outwards as if to squeeze her hand.See that's his version of a hug perhaps.
Ysora folds his hand in her good hand, fingers lacing as she holds him in safe keeping as best she can. When she has ever so tenderly clasped his hand, she begins to pray aloud - voice soft so as to disturb him minimally. Some moments later, a message arrives. She doesn't even let go to read it, letting the servant unfold it. "Ahhh - the Marquis says that the item is in safe hands, and he wishes you a speedy recovery."
That just seems to relax Josh. The fact that Ysora is praying. It is a soothing affect on him. Even though he's in pain and his face will be scarred, just hearing the words of another believer is the tonic he needs it seems. When he hears those words from her he lets out the breath that he didn't realize he was holding and says only one word. "Good."
